Who here now uses their macbook/macbook pro as their main machine?
Hey guys,
Since i bought the MBP my main desktop has only ever been used for filesharing, when i get home i plug the MBP into my monitor and turn on the bluetooth mouse and work away.
Just curious as to how many others have done this?

The only ports on my MBP that don't have something plugged into them are the line in and FW800. The expresscard slot has a dual-port SATA card going to a dual-drive box with G5's drives in it.
All I'm waiting for now is the 7200rpm 200Gb Toshiba drive and the existing 160Gb drive will be upgraded. Drive speed is the only thing I feel lacking in the machine.

Prior to the MBP, my main machine was the 17" iMac in my sig. That has now been relegated to the family and I only use the laptop at home and work.

Yeah i'm looking into eSata and FW800, probably going to go for FW800 as it's the cheaper route and suits my needs (gaming mainly).
All my content is stored on Vishnu (My G4 Gig-Ethernet) and i plug in gigabit when i require my media.
keyboard and mouse are bluetooth, i have an airport express so i don't need to plug in the sound if i'm feeling paticularly lazy so it's really just power + DVI usually, mouse keyboard are on bluetooth and i use wifi for the internet.

I just use my MBP as a secondary computer. Take it with me around a few places, take it to the uni library to get some work done maybe. The iMac is still my main machine.

Likewise. It's nice to have a machine permanently tied to the printer, scanner etc while the Macbook Pro is my truly portable machine.

I used to only use desktops but these days i only use laptops. My MacBook Pro can do everything i need it too so i dont see any reason to use a desktop when i can use a nice small laptop instead.

I agree, it's getting to the point now where the purchase of a laptop is best idea. Can use it as a desktop and portable, and who needs a UPS when you use a laptop as a desktop

I've only used mac portables as my main computer since the late 90's. As a freelancer on the move it's the only way to go.

I voted yes because at home my MacBook is my only computer now, but at uni I have an iMac on my desk. I do take my MacBook into uni now and again, but it is when I know I will be away from my desk for extended periods of time, like when I am running experiments or in the teaching labs.
When it comes time to do some serious thesis writing however, I will probably start using the MacBook more and more, using my iMac just as a place to back things up.
