MacBook Pro on 60W power

So I'm out and the only adapter I have access to is a 60W one from a Macbook, not the 85W one from the Macbook Pro.

Safe to use? Will it still charge the battery but just slower? Will it cause a rupture in the spacetime continuum. I figure if Apple thought it a bad idea to be adapter swapping they'd make the magsafe adapter incompatable.

It'll work, but I wouldn't make a habit of it I also wouldn't plug anything else into the MBP while doing so, as 60W would be near what the MBP puts out.

It should be ok for a plug in and charge though while the machine is switched off?

As for running the machine, does it draw what it needs from the adapter then the residual go to charging the battery or will it also suck juice from the battery if needed (e.g. for some reason it needs 65W, will it get the extra 5W from the battery or will bad shit™ happen?...possible warranty voiding Bad Shit™

It will charge slow when switched off, if switched on it will run, and probably won't charge at all.

The 60w is significantly smaller than the 85w. I have noticed that the mbp charges much quicker than the macbook.

it's a bit hard....if I could grab the 85W one I would.....I'm stuck though and need power and the only option at the moment is a 60W adapter from a MacBook.

Re-assuring to hear that others have tried with no ill effects. I do the same with phone chargers (I have a million ans one nokia chargers) and the rule of thinb I've used there was that if it fits, it will charge...no probs so far there. A MacBook Pro is a different proposition though.

Cheers all,

Bartron
