First Back-up on new MacBook... Won't work???

I've always used superduper on my powerbook and this app was brought accross to my macbought when I migrated all my stuff from the pbook. I just tried to do my first back-up of the new machine using super-duper to an external f/wire hard-drive and I got this error:

"An error occured while verifying that permissions are enabled for Macbook HD"

The error log reads as follows:

Could this be because the version of superduper is a powerpc version???

I've re-partitioned and erased my external drive but it still won't work.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Roo

superduper! is a universal binary...

did you format the external drive using the GUID option which you need if you want a bootable clone of an intel mac...

Cheers

PPC macs need the Apple Partition Map to boot from which is how your external drive was formatted when you were cloning off your powerbook...

Intel macs need the GUID Partition scheme to boot from, so you need to format and partition the external drive using Disk Utility with the GUID Partition Scheme...

Then SuperDuper! will be able to make a bootable clone of the MacBook to the external drive...

I didn't see an option for that in disk utility when I partitioned it but I did partition it on my intel machine so I'm assuming it will be bootable????
I downloaded super-duper again........ (dammit, it's the new version without a password online!) and it worked fine. (except for the fact it takes hours without the smart back-up option!)
Here is the info of my new back-up. If possible, can you tell me if this will be bootable?

Bootable:Yes is a good indicator

Go to Startup disks in System Prefs and see if it pops up, and then try to boot from it...

Under the "Partition" tab in Disk utility, there's an Option... button which allows you to set the partitioning scheme.

When you click on the disk in Disk Utility it will tell you what partitioning scheme has been used to format it at the bottom, by the way.

Problem solved... I'm guessing that because my external drive was originally partitioned & formatted by my PPC powerbook, superduper wouldn't write over the top of the old partition that was originally used to back-up my powerbook.
Thanks for all your help.
Does this mean that I can't back up both my notebooks on the same external drive?? That would kinda suck!

You can - I saw an article recently, maybe it was in Shirtpocket's blog - about how to partition a FW drive to boot both PPC and Intel machines.
