Product MacBook
Recommendation: Neutral - Mid product cycle
Last Release November 08, 2006
Days Since Update 127 (Avg = 204)
I think you'll be waiting a while for the next update. I'd buy it. You'll have to pay for Leopard when it's released in a couple of months (or whenever), but that's a comparatively small cost if the alternative is no laptop.

And remember that you don't need to buy the latest release OS.
The current one will perform for quite some happy time.

can i stress out too folks, that all current macs will run leopard as good, if not better than how it does with tiger at the moment?
it's the strict apple policy, that each increment of an OS (i.e. 10.3, 10.4, etc) has to perform better than the previous increment (or so the apple rep told me). and I have seen that to be the case, i.e. a g3 ibook, had 10.2. I put 10.4 on (as an upgrade) and it ran much MUCH better/faster.
So whatever mac you get now, will run leopard and all it's features nicely. so dont stress, and get one now if you need one

Just my personal view here, I'm waiting until May/June to get my new MB. Leopard will surely be out by then and with the new Intel chip released with the GMA X3000 rumoured I'm hedging bets that an update to the MB is probable.
Besides it's always my luck I buy a Mac and a month later an updated model is released. So I'll wait.

I think that would be with anything you purchase just about. It's nothing new. and again, its a good way to look at need-to-want ratio.. if you want one, and dont need it? then wait i guess.. sit on those hands and wait.. however, like me, where I have a powerbook, and urgently need a macbook pro so that I can use audio software more efficiently (and with my imac, i know things will be just right), I'll get one asap without giving two shits about what's coming up.
again, its all about the want-to-need ratio

Let me rephrase your original question:
Quote:

I'm giving my pacemaker to my father, should I get another one so that my heart keeps working, or wait?
|
If you NEED a computer, you have no choice but to get one now. Better ones will come out, but honestly, you really won't mind. The current Mac range is fantastic and has no glaring omissions that a refresh will provide.
I bought my new MBP three days ago, btw.

Windows has only barely caught up to Tiger anyway. he'll still be getting the WOW for many months yet.
