Not sure sorry, however so you know, you can use "VLC" to play all DVD's regardless of their region code.

VLC (VideoLAN Client) is just a media player that plays various audio and video formats including DVD's. It will play all DVD's regardless of what region your DVD drive is locked into. So instead of using Apple's DVD Player, you could use VLC instead.

VLC is video/DVD player.
Wheels VLC can only ignore the region encoding on certain drives, as far as I know it won't work (for playing out of region DVDs) on any of the Intel Macs

My apologies. It works on my PowerBook and I completely forgot that it may be different for an Intel Mac.

You will have the option to set the initial region coding the first time you load a DVD. Until you do this, VLC won't work for you either I don't think. Mac The Ripper (DVD Backup software) definitely doesn't.

thanks to the digital millenium act, and free trade embargos.. shops will not be allowed to sell multi-region dvd/dvd player's or anything like that anymore... its sad because there's alot of tv shows/films on dvd that will never reach our shores... and people will have to resort to 'other means' of media procurement....
im sorry to see VLC doesn't work for the intel macs
as it makes me want to keep my powerbook longer now!

on the link that Wheels supplied you have the option to download an intelmac version. I'm having trouble downloading the ppc version, though - I just get a million lines of code, instead of a downloading .dmg

No. Are you crazy? The industrial-military-entertainment complex give us, the consumer, a choice? The region will be set to that of the disc you are loading.

Before you click on the download link hold down apple or option keys and then click the download link. Your browser is displaying the .dmg file rather then downloading it. Holding one of those keys will force it to download (rather then display). Sorry I dont know which one, my memory is not so good at this moment. But I am sure you will get it with either attempt.

You may want to get your facts straight before posting. There is a separate Intel and PPC version of VLC.

Works better on my Macbook Pro than it ever did on my G5 Powermac.

Agreed. The intel version of VLC works just great!
Just had a second look at other posts. Since when does MacTheRipper not work?? I just ripped a DVD a few hours ago. The program that wouldn't work because I had not yet set DVD Player was FastDVDCopy.
