MacBook PRO has the worst burner drive I have ever seen.

Who agrees?

It's slow, incompatible with the rated speed of most media, buffer level while burning is up and down like a yoyo. It just pisses me off everytime I have to use it.

I'm actually copying all my files to my PC to burn them instead of using the MacBook PRO. I'm going to get a "proper" burner drive and stick it in a USB/FIREWIRE caddy and use that. It's a huge letdown on an otherwise stellar machine.

Sorry to vent but I've had enough.

It is just me, because I am getting this overall vibe that when apple made the switch to intel their quality went down. My next comp will be a PPC for sure.

There are always compromises to be made when going for Revision A hardware, I'm sure the Superdrive will be much better (faster) in the next 15" MacBook Pro.

I just found this...

Seems there is a bit of denial/sweeping under the carpet of and about the problems.

In terms of comparing apples with apples (get it ???..... ) the superdrive in the MacBook Pro is a backward step from the Powerbook it replaced. The PowerBook has the capability of burning DL discs, although admittedly +R only, whereas the MBP can't do DL, period.

I've found that media sensitivity varies from machine to machine.

yep its worse then the DL drive in the some powerbooks but its the only drive that fits in a mac book pro(apparently) so apple had no choice but to use it

Look at the picture at the bottom of this page... HERE

I'd rather have a notebook that is 3mm thicker with a functional DVD burner than this POS.

a slight aside -
i am so dissapointed with my new ibook 14 g4 i recieved through work as part of getting rid of apples old g4 stock. it has a teac burner in it which doesnt read half the commercial cds i put in it. the 3 year old g3 ibook it replaced was far superior.
