My wifes new black MacBook is brilliant, however shes experiencing something ive seen showing up on some forums stateside but now the MacBooks are starting to show up here was keen to see if anyone else is having this problem.
Basically it has issues waking from sleep or freezing after a time of inactivity. You can leave the computer for a while and return to find the screen black as if asleep but it cnt be woken, a force restart the only fix.
Or sometimes the screen is awake but it has frozen, disks are running but the mouse wont move, again a force restart is the only option. I will continue to try and isolate the problem by fiddling with energy / screen saver options but any leads helpful

Wingrove,
Is it constantly connected to its power source while these sleep/wake/freeze issues are occuring?
If it running off its battery when these problems occur, would try plugging it in and see if that changes anything.
Also, is AirPort or Bluetooth activated?
If so, switch them off. Switch Network to Ethernet.
Is it standing still?
Try tests again, with AirPort / Bluetooth deactivated, sitting in one place without movement, and plugged into power source.
Post results here.
Cheers,
ClockWork

Also - try reseting the Power Management Unit:
1. Make sure the MacBook is truly "off".
2. Remove the AC Power Adaptor.
3. Remove the MacBook's Battery.
4. Now press and hold down the MacBook's Power button, for 5 seconds.
5. Reconnect both the Battery and the Power Adaptor.
6. Now press the Power button to Restart the computer.
May also be worthwhile performing a full Battery Reconditioning:
1. With the MacBook "on", pull out the Power Adaptor, so it's running from Battery only.
2. Put in a long DVD and play it, or put on 8 hours of iTunes Music and make it play the lot until it has absolutely no power left in its battery. It will then look like it's gone to Sleep. Light pulsing.
3. Leave it in this dead state for 12 hours, pulsing light.
4. After 12 hours, reconnect the Power Adaptor, and should it spring to life and try to play iTunes music, Shut it Down immediately.
5. With the MacBook "off" allow it to Power up for 12 hours.
6. Turn it on and run the tests again.

yes its on airport, very inconvenient to connect any other way with the setup at the moment,
yes has happened while on AC and battery
Will try PMU first then work my way through the other fixes suggested.
WILL POST RESULTS

Yes - it is possible that it maybe sporadically Waking via AirPort activity, or through some kind of in-built Motion Sensor, or even simply through a defect in the lid itself accidently pressing down on the keys.
I won't think up anything else till you run through the basics and respond.
Cheers,

Very Good Wingrove. All too many expect instant gratification... yet a slower procedure of logical ellimination coupled with intuition, definitely yeilds results! And when you do find the termite in the wood pile, you'll have a huge feather in your hat for everyone else's Sleep/Wake/ Freeze MacBook problems!
Keep us updated. Ta.

i've been having this problem, not every time but often enough.
I close the lid and leave it asleep for a while, then I open the lid = instant kernel panic.
So far I've:
Reset PMU/ PRAM
Done an extended hardware test (no problems).
__
It does it on battery & pluged in.
Airport is running
Panic log seems the same except sometimes CPU0 and others 1:

From the smell of an oily rag, your Unresolved kernel trap (CPU 0, Type 14=page fault) - would appear to be AirPort related.
For test purposes, turn AirPort "off". The Kernal Panics "appear" to be caused by wireless devices - (maybe) - too early to tell. Turn off AirPort and BlueTooth.
What kind of Wireless Modem / Router are you using? And does it have an Ethernet Port or Port(s) for a hard connection?

Whilst ive heard numerous stories of kernal panics associated with this issue We've never had one with the MB just frozen or blacked out screens. whilst this may be some indication of a panic we never got a kernal or warning screen or any kind of command line warnings.
Also its now a couple of days with no freezes after I reset the PMU.

Real good to hear Wingrove!
I'd never suggest that because one machine comes up with a panic kernal, all machines of the same brand 'will' - as if it could ever be that simple, or that an actual pattern can be nailed down...
Again - excellent to hear MacBook is not playing silly buggers after PMU Reset - next test... AirPort on? BlueTooth on? Close lid?
(interested)
cheers,
ClockWork
