I'm just wondering I've recently purchased the standard based Macbook 1.83ghz but was originally planning to purchase a 12" Ibook so basically what I was wondering what are the advantages/disadvantages of having an Ibook/Macbook. Basically what I would like to know is it better to pay $1599 for an Ibook 12" or $1749 for a Macbook?

what will you be using the laptop for, Newbie? Therein will lie part of your answer, methinks.
As for me, I almost went with a 2nd hand iBook at least twice over the last year ... just for general internet surfing, basic word processing, emailing and the like. Yet, the introduction of the MacBook, with it's iSight, Intel chip (potential to boot Windows), Front Row, slick design and great bang for buck, it was hard to pass up.
Yet, if I was strapped for cash, I'd make do with an iBook.

Thanks I spose I was just getting my post purchase regret which is quite funny seeing as I love my Macbook but I spose I'm just worried with everyone talking about Rev A & B and am scared that I'm gonna get stuck with an MB filled with probs at least I know that if I get a 12" Ibook that all the probs have already been ironed out. Generally the only difference price wise will be $200 between an Ibook & Macbook.

How many times have you asked this question or a derivative of it?
You know where the info is, but that's besides the point. Nothing we can say can or should make any difference to how you feel about it (as the failure of our repeated reassurances proves).
You've made a good purchase. Stop worrying about it and enjoy it.

Thanks! I didn't think that I had asked the question before. Must have posted it in the past but no one seems to answer my question. I suppose I've got to ask my question properly. Basically what I'm trying to figure if it was better purchasing the 12" Ibook because it's enough for my needs but at the same time I don't want to be upgrading in a year's time because none of my programs chosen can run on the current program...sorry though... guess I'm just scared don't really spend this much $$ all that often :P

Well if that's the case then the MB is definetly alot better value :P considering the PB's are still more as we speak than the basic MB and I think from what Ozimac and everyone else is saying the MB is better than the PB...haven't really gotten an answer I've read the official website but because I'm not too tech knowledgeable I don't really know which is better etc. Thanks

Okay then - the MacBook is light years better than the iBook (and the 12 inch Powerbook, despite what anyone else says - and a lot of the older Powerbooks, and in some respects even the G5s for that matter).
So - it's great. Start exploring that greatness.

agreed, the macbook will be more superior than any of the older cpu's till the next revision/replacement of the macbook arrives...
seriously, why keep comparing? I've learnt to stop and deal with that that at the end of the day? ppc? intel? doesn't matter, its a fucking mac enjoy it, and stop analyzing!

I don't see how seeking positive or negative assurance will alter your actions after you've already made your purchase. Wouldn't it be better to ask these questions before you actually bought it? If you did, you probably got all sorts of answers about pros and cons about buying an iBook or MacBook that didn't really help. I think at the end of the day, you should go with gut feeling. In the end, you probably made the right decision in buying a MacBook. It may be a bit pricier but it'll last you a fair few more years than if you had bought the iBook. So I say, good choice.

just the usual buyer's remorse.
like when i first got my ibook, i wished i had gone for a powerbook instead. but now, i prefer the plastic white (more durable) rather than the aluminium finish. but it's just a personal preference. my ibook's dropped on the floor a few times without dents. my mate's powerbook dropped once, and it's scarred for life
i'd go for a macbook rather than a macbook pro any day (no, nothing to do with me being a poor student :P hehehe).
oh well, love the macbook. it'll be your best electronic purchase ever (till something better comes)

By almost all measures, MB is better than its replacement ibook. Saving a few hundreds by going with ibook is going to come back and haunt you.
Whereas, now you have purchased the best your money can buy. So stop worrying and enjoy already.
