 iBook loses WPA access points

Hi Knowledgeable Gurus,

I have a G4 ibook with some behaviour that is very frustrating. I have two access points, one uses WEP encryption and the other WPA encryption, both with a shared secret for authentication. The WPA access point also does not broadcast the SSID.

I can connect to both fine at any time, however when I restart the iBook it "forgets" about the WPA access point and I have to go in and reconnect manually, whereas it always manages to pick up the WEP access point automatically.

Anyone seen this behaviour before and know how to fix it?

Thanks
Prescott

You can set the preffered network for it to connect to in System Preferences -> Network -> Airport. Change it from automatic...

I dont think you can set it to automatically connect to the last one you used. Anyone else know?

Ahh, that could be it. I'll try setting the WPA as the default network but it doesn't specify the authentication mechanism in the airport settings...thanks for your help

The reason it picks up the WEP encrypted network on reboot is because as the Airport software scans for open networks on start up, it finds your WEP network and therefore stops looking as you have the authentication requirements to join that network.
Using the reply from yearofbrock above, you may have some success in re-ordering your preferred networks to have you WPA network with its hidden SSID first in the list.
