My friend who recently worked for HP is looking for a laptop to get. She is like the typical PC diehard who thinks of Macs as how they were in 1997 with OS 8. So therefore she thinks they're toys, unstable and not "serious" like Windows. What's better is that she wants me to help her pick her computer and due to all those security concerns, I'm unable to genuinely recommend getting a PC, considering that Vista is around the corner as well. I'd love her to get a MacBook, especially since her needs are:

-Word processing
-Web browsing
-Photo management
-Using Visio

Not only that, but she now works in charity so she can get it tax free. So she's a perfect candidate and she can just use BootCamp or Parallels to run Windows and Visio. So what can I say to convince her to get a Mac and not a PC?

Take her to your nearest Apple Store and let her get her hands on a new Mac Book. She won't take much convincing. You could also direct her to

http://www.apple.com/getamac/

This will tell her just about everything she needs to know.

Cheers!

Sounds harsh, but I tend to agree. But if you really want to convince her you have to let her play with a mac - and maybe tell her it now boots windows, might bring her over to the dark side, long enough to show her that Mac OS X is by far the better os

Perhaps I could leave her with my PowerBook for a couple of days?

Hmmm if she has to use Visio for things that only she does, you should show her OmniGraffle. It's pretty slick, and much cheaper then Visio. I'm not sure if OmniGraffle can import/export Visio format or not, but it's worth checking out.

Oops I think I deleted that - luckily it's on my restore DVD. I'll try it out and compare it with Visio.

We're not comparing Windows here - the many problems with the classic Mac OS was why Apple had to ditch it and start afresh.
