 Deleting files does not free up HD space?

Despite the fact that I have deleted large files from my HD, I have noticed that there is no corresponding increase in the capacity on my HD when I go to check the information on my HD. The HD capacity information only "refreshes" after a full reboot. Is this normal?

My PB is running OSX 10.3.9 and I also have FileVault activated.

The finder in pre-10.4 had a notorious issue about updating. File changes could even be slow responding in the Finder's interface. The answer is, upgrade to 10.4 which fixes a long-standing and damn irritating bug.

My iMac does much the same thing. It definitely isn't anything 'dangerous', your PB will not blow up, don't worry :P. I'd guess that the reported capacity gets checked whenever Finder boots, so perhaps just restarting the Finder would do the trick? Just a suggestion, it could do nothing, im just too lazy to try it

The same thing use to happen to me when I used FileVault, with FileVault on you will just have to do a full reboot in order to get your true available HD space.
