SED looks like a great technology.

I have 1.25gb on my 12" PB. Are you talking about as standard, or... ??!?!?

I am waiting for a Mactel as well..
But I just placed an order for a new iBook a few days ago..

Cuz I am new to Apple, unwilling/unable to spend big $$ on PB..
I figure that my new iBook would hold at least 3 years, and will give me time to have a "try" and see the how new Mactel performs.

Plus I never like being a white rat, when Mactel first comes out, it will have problems just like other new machines out there.

The machine itself isn't too expensive in Auz, but the 3rd party accessories are way too OVERPRICED!!

i really dont see the point waiting a year for an intel mac
we all know that 6 months or a year after you buy it there will be something faster released.
Does it really matter what kind of cpu you have.

I'm not specifically after the Intel processor, but rather the potential it will bring to the machine. If I can get a mac that can dual boot, then I'll be happy.

Everyone always says they wouldn't buy a Rev A product on the basis that they still have some problems but I have a Rev A 12" PB and a Rev A Mac Mini and I have had no dramas at all. Admittedly some of the features present on the later revisions is missing, but the same could be said of Rev B, C etc. products as new models are released - that's how technology goes.

Therefore, I will be buying I 15" Macintel PB as soon as they are available - I've started saving already !

Fixed for me.

The difference is that it's a completely new thing. The mini was still the same processor, same system as before, tried and tested, whereas the Mactels will be something never done before, thus there are almost certain to be bugs. Hopefully there won't be, but chances are, there will be.

I really like PB 15 before, but now I actually prefer 12' because easier to carry around (and due to small space at my house), and with the price difference I can connect to a bigger monitor at home..

So what I would love to see in Mactel,

1. 13' inch PB, has become a trend thse days..12' is fine with me.. But 13 would be much better

2. Dual processors (exactly what everybody wants).

3. Cooler, and longer battery life

4. Better upgrade capacity (e.g. up to 2GB RAM, graphic card).

That's all I need at this moment..
But I guess # 2 and #3 will make it very very hard to come true..

Yes, most likely. I figure I will need updated hardware late next year, so I may as well wait until the next generation iMac/PB gets intel processors.

People have been talking about putting windows on the new Mac with intel processor. I spoke to a friend at Next Byte a few weeks ago and he said that the new processor wont be set up to run stand allone windows. Mac will still be Mac OS ONLY. the only way to run windows on it is by using Virtual PC (VPC).
But the good news is that it will run fast because at the moment windows has to convert the code everytime u do something on VPC, but because the new processors are intel then windows wont have to convert the code making it as fast as a normal pc. The second bit of good news is that you can have both windows and Mac on at the same time without either one being slow (as long as the computer is fast).
Also, i can remember if Steve mentioned this in the Keynote but the processor speed will be over 5GHz. I think he did though.
Hope this helps if it hasnt already been mentioned. lol

Actually Apple's own VP has said they won't stop anyone from running Windows (they just won't support it). Dual-booting will be a reality.

If all goes well with money then ill wait till the new intel processors are in the powerbooks and then get a 15inch PB. Might get the second bunch so they fix what ever problems there might be and improve the perfomance and lower the price. I learnt from my mistake from buying one of the first iMac G5s. soon after i picked it up they released the 2GHz Dual Layer Combo ones. lol but the one i got is still great. its a mac after all.
If im short on cash then ill swap my iMac G5 over for the new iMac with intel CPU. hope they dont have that crappy "intel inside" sticker on it. i wouldnt want to have anything that resembles windows visible on my macs.
