the next Apple moust will only be the white part that is the top of the current magic mouse.. it will be a thin, almost potato chip shape.. elegant and graceful - but here's the real prophecy thats gonna get your goat Marc..
..I reckon it'll have an inbuilt ireplacable lithium battery, like the iPhone. Designed to last 1 year, like the Nike+. edit: P.S. I LOVE CONSUME! </derail> |

Ive never had a wireless mouse before the Magic Mouse but these are my observations. The battery life seems to be very good as ive had the MM since launch day and it is only down to 83%. Also i have no connect/disconnect issues. I do agree that there is lag though so it would be no good for Prepress/Graphic design but is great for everyday use.

Don't mind a derail like that ![]() Great tip! Do you know what the default value is, so it can be reset at a later date? EDIT: Default value is 3 (well, that's what mine is currently set to, before the change). I can confirm that I've safely changed it to 12 and back to 3 with no side effects

I had trouble with mouse pointer lag on my Mac Pro (2006). Fixed it by changing the antenna wire to the Bluetooth module (see instructions here). Apparently the 2006 model has a mislabelled BT wire.
I have recently noticed some lag with Magic Mouse on my MacBook Pro. Not sure if it is Bluetooth reception problem or just a driver issue. However, works smoothly on my Mac Pro now since the fix. I would LOVE a wired Magic Mouse due to me sharing my 30" Cinema Display between my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro using the Belkin Flip (see my set up here). Can't figure out a way to quickly switch a BT mouse between two computers. Patiently waiting for some gestures to bring back Expose (side buttons) and Dashboard (centre button). |

Yes, there are a few solutions to the missing middle-click (and multitouch), but I found all of them somewhat wonky. They tend to either introduce delays or confusion (mis-clicks) or are simply difficult to use. I ended up turning them off and again suffer without middle-click. Apparently there is a reason Apple held back on those features…
Cheers Steffen.

I think the Magic Mouse is an improvement on the Mighty Mouse, but I have two main quibbles:
1. I'd also dearly love a wired version. My main desktop has an abundance of USB ports, and using batteries is wasteful and annoying when a cable would work just as well. 2. The lack of a configurable Command-Click. I miss being able to open new tabs with a single click. |

Hey Marc... I wonder if you may have some other 2.4ghz device, or maybe wifi in your house that might be interfering with your bluetooth somehow? When I did the review on the Voiis Stereo Gateway, I found interfered with my Shintaro Keyboard which isn't bluetooth but does operate on the 2.4ghz spectrum. Disconnecting bluetooth solved the problem. Maybe the same thing is happening to you but in reverse, from a cordless phone or something?

There's g/n wireless here, but nothing else that's cordless or Bluetooth. The lag/jumps are very subtle and only really noticeable for design work. |

I have been using my magic mouse with the batteries that came with it for 23 days now. about 10 hours a day and turning it off at night. I just got the pop up warning that I am under 10% battery life.
I would love a wired version! I knew AAs would be the Achilles heel of this thing. Imagine how much this would effect the "green rating" of my mac. over 12 sets of alkaline batteries a year going to landfill is not very green at all... I*have said this before but why not a rechargeable lithium battery not unlike a digital camera, when you run it down you then plug in a usb cable (using the ipod cable would make sense) and you have a wired mouse whilst it charges. Now that is the kind of thinking I expect from apple. From my quick "wiki" research the AA battery was first put into production in 1959. I find it baffling that it is being used to power apples latest gadget... |
