Default Airport Express problems

I just got refurb'd AE and I'm having problems setting it up. I installed the CD, plugged in my modem (a Dynalink), USB printer and speakers, plugged it in and now nothing. It flashes orange, the software finds the AE, but it gets hung up. Says there is an error. Tried setting it up manually, nothing.

Have I bought a lemon? Or do some people have trouble setting these things up?

Any advice is appreciated!

Deano

Okay so you have your AE plugged into your modem via ethernet?

Do you have MAC address filtering turned on with your modem settings? (this is normally only wireless but I've seen some that include wired)

Have you tried another network cable?

The orange flashing light normally means that the AE has not got a valid IP address from it's connection. Does the the Airport software say if there is a problem? (it normally tells you if there is an issue it can see)

Yep, modem plugged in via ethernet, it picks up an IP address, but gets hung and says there is an error. MAC address filtering, I'm not sure. I've been using wireless for ages, so it must be on.....

And the software says there is no problem. Very strange.....

What IP address is your AE getting from the modem? (just give us the first 6 numbers - probably 192.168 or something like that)

Have you got the AE set up to be a wireless access point, or to extend your wireless network?

(I can't do screenshots, I'm at work on a pc!)

I'll have to go and plug it in and muck around to get the IP address, and my son just woke up! Damn! And not sure if I set the AE up to be the wireless access point, I don't remember getting that far!

I might have to pick this up later. Mind if I PM you the details when I get them?

Cheers!

No problems at all with that... though the hive mind might be able to provide better help as I by no means know it all..... just most of it.

I recieved mine from the refurb store this week too. I used the Airport Utility to Set it up, just like i did with the Extreme which is connected to my modem.

Reset it from the bottom of the AR, it's a small grey button .... hold it down for 5-10 seconds and use the airport utility. Unless your on a PC .... you'll have to get help from others.

Cheers
Tarik.
