Default Modem/Router Help Please

Hi,

I have just spent a couple of hours searching for information on routers/modems and can't decide what will best do the job. I need a setup for a small office running a couple of recent macs and a couple of older PC's (from before wireless - have been using usb wireless adaptors). Would also like to be able to connect an external hdd and a couple of brother printers.

What is the best modem/router solution for a mac and pc environment. Budget is no issue - I just need something that will do the job and make things integrate easily and reliably. Office is in an ADSL1 area if that makes any difference.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Cheers

An AirPort Extreme would allow all the computers to access "Your Network" helping you with your mission for A$ 279.00

The Apple Website has a bunch of stuff to read on how Amazing this Device is, but it is basically a very smart wireless router and smashes the competition in my opinion.

I'd suggest an Airport Extreme + (if you dont have one already) a basic ADSL modem in bridge mode.

If you already have a combo modem/router, you can just put it in bridge mode.

Some people will tell you it's too hard to configure, but it really isn't. I was able to TALK my friend through configuring a Telstra ADSL modem + AE over the PHONE.

If you don't have a modem already, I can recommend the Linksys AM300 (got mine from Warcom). Once it's set up (I still keep meaning to post that HowTo) it's pretty much rock solid.

I've read in a couple of places on the forum about putting a modem/router in bridge mode.

I use a Tesltra supplied 2701HGV-W Gateway modem router. My plan is to connect it to a 1TB Time capsule and use the TC as the household wirelss router and NAS device. There appears to be no 'bridge' setting on the Telstra kit. Am I missing something or can the bridging setting be activated on the TC to achieve the same result?

A quick google gave me some results on putting that modem into Bridge mode.

These are the instructions I used with my friend over the phone:
Do NOT accept a Telstra 2Wire 2701HGV-W - ADSL - BigPond - Whirlpool Broadband Forums

They don't mention it there, but make sure you restart the modem after that the steps listed, setup your account details in the PPPoE tab for the TC and roberts your fathers brother.

Thanks,

I had thought about an airport extreme but had read some mixed reviews re compatability with PC's and some printers etc. Guess I'll give it a go. Current work modem is a Speedstream (6520 I think) but the wireless functionality seems to be playing up - probably time to update it anyway. I'll have a look at the Linksys.

Cheers
