but but

Is ENI displaying poor Forum etiquette - with these ad hoc decisions <_<

If he wants (as he is entitled to) give them away as he pleases - shouldn't he do so via PM - rather than Forum posts - seems a bit provocative IMHO

Uh, was that a joke? People PM email addresses to hide from spambots, where's the harm in that?

[Edit]
Invites are still selling over at ebay for a couple of bucks US :P Maybe I should take my invites there and get closer to my RAM upgrade for my poor poor new powerbook starving at 512mb Unless someone wants to give me either 512 or 1gig for invites In that case...INVITES!! GET EM WHILE THEY'RE HOT!!!

PS I'm guessing that was a joke. looks funny on this forum... It looks more accusing when elsewhere it's used more in a humor way  Or am I just talking nonsense now? Yup, very possible...then again it can't be much worse than some of the stuff I wrote in my math exam today!

My point is: that as my request for a gmail invite was prior to both ozi and estoyloco - why did ENI make the decision to give his two invites to the latter requests and not the prior

Of cousrse you are entilted to give the invites to whom you please - but as you were basically dissing the prior request by making public posts about your decision to give them away other than on a first come first serve basis - I would contend that you should not have made the post advising of your decisions but communicated via PM your decisions to those you decided deserved them
or explained why you decided to grant them as you did

Firstly, I didn't send one to you because I must have missed your request. Probably because I noticed the name ozi, as I remembered it from another forum. Secondly, my original post was that I had two spare to give out, which I did. These latter few have actually been one I was intending to use myself and another I'd promised to a friend who happened to have gone away. Thirdly...don't like saying it but I don't believe I had to give any out in the first place.

yeah use it lots - divert all your forum notifications, ebay, newsletters, etc to the gmail, and after about a week you'll get some.

herbie, did you end up getting one?

Firstly buddabing, being rude and obnoxious is no way to make friends, or get people to invite you to the wonderful world of GMail. Also, me and eni know each other from Mac Rumors, where we chatted a fair bit about how long pBooks take to get delivered (Read Aswitchers post about his 17")

And thirdly, a big thankyou to Eni for the invite.

Ozi's post was a good imitation of a 'brown tonged' lizard and worthy of consideration. But it was the subsequent seemingly ad hoc decision that irked and felt as though it was bad ettiquette

Anyways the good folks at Whirlpool.net.au apparently were less discerning than ENI and I have now received a gmail invite

/end bickering

This thread is a bloody mess now. Sorry to all those that I haven't sent an invite to - I've been bogged down with work (literally, it's complete shite). cmetom and Currawong are right, does anyone else want an invite from me?

I'm assuming that's why eni was a little erratic with his invites, buddabing. Appletalk characteristically is a very friendly, generous forum - some are selling their Gmail invites for $ (eg. one person from OCAU sold 2 invites for $15 each!), and here we are offering them free, for the greater good of Appletalk

LCGuy> don't know how I keep getting ~ 6 invites a week, have hardly used Gmail myself

I just wanted to publicly thank josh64 for my invite. Although there are some privacy issues with gMail that I'm not totally comfortable with just yet at least I have an account to actually test those issues. Once I actually get some invites to give away (my first three are already allocated) I'll be giving one (or more if I've got them) to other lucky people here.

If you request one from me and don't get a response after three or four days in this thread then please PM me with a kind, considerate reminder. As I was recently reminded here, rudeness will get you no where.

If you are implying that me showing gratitude means I am "licking someones arse" or "sucking up" to eni, then you have real issues.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with me saying thanks to him, as he gave me an invite i was considering buying for US$5 on Ebay. Stop turning this thread into a place for you to rant and rave about the inconsitencies of life, and grow up.
