Default Elgato H.264 HD edition released

Turbo264HD overview

The only thing holding me back form purchasing the H.264 USB stick from Elgato was the fact that it didn't support HD. Now it appears, that problem is solved.

Hopefully Anthony can receive a review unit.

I'd really like to get an indepth, real world use review of this. Most sites won't talk about converting AVI files to AppleTV etc. I'd also like to know how quick it is at converting an Elgato HD recording from Channel 7, 9 or 10 that has dolby digital audio.

I'd also like to know what it's like at converting, if possible, a dvd to AppleTV.

I'm extremely serious about buying one of these.

I am also keen to see a review if this thing. Some unofficial info from the Elgato support forums indicate the new version is much quicker and the new chipset used overcomes some previous issues. I would be seriously tempted to buy one if that is the case. Current cost is $150US yikes!

Yes, I know there are plenty of software based solutions out there but I actually like to use my mac for other things while it is encoding video.

Decryption, it's time to start schmoozing Elgato for a review unit

I have one of the HD ones... I'll run a few tests over the next couple of days with converting files already on my computer and dvds and stuff.

Would be good, would it be possible to include your current system spec. as well so we can compare details.

Can it be used with Handbrake? Now that it can handle a sleuth of video formats it would be handy.

Nope - it can only be used by apps that use QuickTime as it's exporting system (Handbrake uses ffmpeg).
