Google Maps driving me Insane!

Heya,

Ever since Google Maps has implemented "Street View" in Oz, the maps just don't seem to load for me. It will either bring up nothing but grey where the map should be and then eventually say something along the lines of it can't be loaded at this resolution (you know when you zoom in too far). On the odd occassion, it just loads instantly, with no lag or delay at all. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why.

Doesn't matter where I use it, directly at maps.google.com, realestate.com.au, or anywhere that uses Google Maps! The vast majority of the time, it just won't load!!!

Any ideas? Anyone experiencing the same problems? Keep in mind that I am in London, with a pretty large pipe to the net, so I doubt it's a bandwidth issue. Could it be software/hardware? I'm using Firefox 3.0.1 (but also doesn't work in Safari)

Cheers!!!

And in Safari: Preferences -> Security tab -> and activate all the Web content check boxes ?

No.

Don't forget street view is a Flash implementation, do you have your Flash enabled, and up-to-date?

It's not street view that doesn't work. In fact, that't one of the bits that does work! But then the map just looks like a bunch of blue lines with no street names.

Normal view is what is not working!

But that is street view, or part of it.

Turn off street view and then what happens?

Ahh, I see what you mean, one more thing, go to http://maps.google.com.au/ and search for map with the term "Melbourne" and post that result.

Did you say you tried Safari as well?

You're not behind a firewall/proxy/blah that is blocking images from the Google Maps server are you? I've come across an instance where the Maps server was classed as "streaming media" or something by Surf Control (web filter), and because all content categorised as that was blocked, it meant the maps never loaded.

Are you using a Netcomm modem? As weird as it sounds we have seen issues at work with Google maps and Netcomm modems.

I have not dealt with one yet, but I think increasing the MTU may help.

Okay then! Well that's very interesting, let's see if I can help, it sounds like you want some help???

I do programming with Adobe Flash, and recently did some with Google Maps and Flash. I know you don't want this in Flash, but just maybe it will help narrow down the issue, see here...

Home - AUG Vic - Adobe User Group Victoria

In particular try these...

http://www.muvclub.asn.au/mapdemo/ch...glemapTest.swf
gMapComponent
mymapdemo_v01
mymapdemo_v03

And let me know what happens or not.

It's weird the ones that half load. I can leave it for up to 10 mins and they still won't load. I have used a PC on the same network using Internet Explorer, and it works instantly.

I appreciate your help, SyncMan!
