This is a really interesting post.
SMRT - Singaporean public transit authority
SingTel - duh
Victoria Ho - Singaporean tech blogger
Joyce Lim - SingTel
Wang Meng Meng - Singaporean tech journo (?)
Eugene Wee - Research Manager in IDC's Asia/Pacific Services team based in IDC’s Asia/Pacific headquarters in Singapore
CityRail - NSW public transit authority
Peter Blasina - the freaking gadget guy on Sunrise
Paul Budde - Aussie telco analyst
Daniel Long - PC Authority journo
David Richards - makes shit up for Smarthouse
What a weird, motley assemblage. Something related to both telecommunications and public transport, as evidenced by SMRT and CityRail's presence (as well as the mention of Amtrak).
edit: check out the second last line of this page on Airvenue's site

however, the dates in that list seem to be 09/10/08-09/12/08
Not quite June.

This has nothing as far as I can see to do with the iPhone, so I've moved the discussion of it here.

It's a term used by product planning people. It refers to the date before which no information about the product can be released.

Except the bit about Cupertino and "Multitouch Tablet N-3G", and the fact that somebody registered for the express purpose of posting it in an iPhone thread. Tenuous? Sure. Irrelevant? Maybe not.

ARGH! Mesh wifi on trains? FARKIN! First i can't fly because airports are saturated in electrosmog, then they put it on planes, now they want to put it on trains too?
That's it, I'm moving to Israel, where they've just passed a law that prohibits installation of cellular antennas (which includes wifi) in residential areas.

Immediately suspicious that RailCorp would be involved in anything so progressive (sorry Brains, maybe progressive aint the right word!). Highly unlikely!

Mesh wifi is co-operative short-range networking. See this Wikipedia entry.

Hrm, crazy thought but aren't we having a problem with a delayed new ticketing system for our public transport here in Vic?
Didn't I read a thread about Japanese phones being electronic ticketing devices for their P.T.?
Just a thought.
