Is hostess.com.au good for web hosting?
Hi
I've been looking at http://www.hostess.com.au for php web hosting. I've never used them before.
Does anybody know if they are good with tech support and reliablity? Does their spam and virus filtering work OK on incoming emails? Are there any online reviews on them?
Thanks

I am a happy customer of Hostess. Can't really comment on their tech support as I have never needed to use it. There are a couple of others on MacTalk who use them too. Do a search for "Hostess" and see what you get...

Have you thought of asking Infinite Networks who host MacTalk? Drop InfiniteAnthony an email from the forums and I'm sure he'll help you out.

Infinite are great if all you need is a basic web hosting account. I can't really recommend anyone else as all the other web hosts I've used have given me a poor experience. Infinite however, never give a poor experience

Thanks for the replies.
I've sent Hostess an email to the sales section and I'm waiting on a reply. Infinite seem out of my price range for what I'm looking for but I'll send an email just in case. I'll check out hostmonster as well.
Thanks

Hi
I'm having trouble getting information from Hostess. I got one email bounced back a few days after I sent it with an error messages saying the "mailbox is full". One email I did get out of them mentioned trouble with their emails.
I sent another email to them a few days ago and they haven't replied yet. I sent a follow up email today and there is still no answer.
I haven't found a contact phone number for Hostess sales. I'll give Hostess until tomorrow to reply to my emails.
Is there another similarly priced Australian web hosting company I can contact (i.e. with anti spam, anti email virus and php for less than $100 a year)?
Thanks

Are you sure you want to go with Hostess? They can't even get their own e-mail working...

There's a certain sublime logic to that. Suffice to say I'm thinking of giving up on Hostess.

I think Hostess is just NetRegistry targeted at low price market... so you might want to look at NetRegistry themselves too. I only have used NetRegistry for AU domain, so I cannot say too much about their hosting...

My recent experience with hostess.com.au is terrible. 3 days after registering with them and paying for their web hosting I STILL do not have access to web hosting with them. Their support is not only sparse (to say the least) they do not have any idea why their account has not been opened. They have taken the money immediately and then said 'I don't know why we can't give you web hosting' My advice is STAY AWAY from web hostess if you want any kind of service at all.

I've received some email replies from Hostess. They have setup a trial web hosting account for me to use although it doesn't have php on it (I think I forgot to specify that).
Did you have a problem with their Support Ticketing System? They said it was causing problems recently. Did they not have any suggestions about why you are having such a problem?
I'm thinking I'll give Hostess a go as they've offered me a trial account and they seem to be more responsive with emails the past couple of days.
Did you get your money back or are you still seeing if your problem will be resolved with Hostess? I guess I'm a bit confused as I've read good reports about Hostess. That's why I've decided to give them a chance and to see what happens with this trial account.

hostess eventually sent an email 4 1/2 days after I set up the account saying the problem was fixed and it was an issue at their end of the process. No apology. No offer of refund. In that time I had 2 emails from support. The first one simply asked for details which I had already provided twice. The second one asked for a tracking ID. I ordered elsewhere and the process was completed inside 30 minutes including uploading a website. God luck with hostess. You'll need it.

Not good at all!!!!
Last Friday I signed up for a business account at hostess.com.au. My account was set up and I tried to install Zencart, which they say on the website that they support.
The php at hostess is configured to API mode cgi which is not suitable for zencart.
This week I have sent numerous support tickets and have not had a reply. These guys must be on holidays, or don't have a clue as to what is going on. At the very least they have no support at all. It is all very frustrating.
I wouldn't use them at all for hosting.
Kind regards
Angela
