Bad Web Design 101
Whirlpool has had a redesign, have a look for an eyesore of web design!
It always had a clunky, outdated look but the new look is a real step backwards.
I suggested it should be renamed "PooPool" but the mods took exception for some reason.

hey, what can you say. geeks don't get out of their bedrooms oops i mean 'control centres' very often. And as for fashion & style they wouldn't have a clue.
I'm surprised it isn't all black and green zeros & ones ala' the matrix.

the browns do have fecal overtones...
a couple of rounded ('web 2.0'!) corners, inconsistently and badly implemented (I see a black background on one that's wrong)...
Now it needs 'Beta' in a star badge included in the whirlpool logo

look at the abc radio new designs looks really well designed probably have a bigger design budget, but it can't be too hard. |

I agree.
I'm not sure how this is bad design. Sure some may not like the brown colour, but I don't think it makes for bad design.
Putting the "Log Out" and "Recent Topics" links right next to each other is a much greater design sin.

LOL!! i must agree with that comment about the links on MTAU, gives me the sh*ts when i accidently log out.
the bad design is the colour mix of brown and blue, the horrible font,the new logo, the layout with the huge spaces either side and the big menu at the bottom of each page.
if you click back and forwards between the Broadband Choice page (old look) and the Forums you can see how much yuckier the new design is.

Aw, damn. I'm a big fan of Simon Wright's work - i've always loved the way Whirlpool has been coded and layed out. Speaking from experience, there's nothing worse than putting heaps of time into a new design, to be told it looks crap after you've finished.

Admittedly its not clichι web2 with shineyness everywhere  ...but come on.....worst design ever?
It presents alot of information clearly- is easily accessible- does not follow trends for trends sake - and targets it's audience. So what exactly is bad about it? |

The old design presented lots of information clearly, was smaller and looked much nicer.
There are alot of issues with the new design. The color choices are bad.There is more wasted space compared to the old one. Lots of features (such as quick reply) seem to be mia.
The main content looks pretty average. There are some nice rounded corners then they went and just put a big square block in the middle.
It sucks to work on something for ages and have it criticized but thats the way it is sometimes. |
