Bah Humbug - Optus Music shop!

Great says I, an optus internet subscriber, they have an online music shop! Legal music downloads, yay. No iTunes format. Yay.

Only I receive this message:

Quote:
If you are using a browser other than IE or Firefox, the Optus Music Store is unfortunately not compatible with your browser.

Please click here to download Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or here to download Mozilla Firefox.

We regret that Optus Music Store does not support Macintosh platform

Thank you

The Optus team...
And they wonder why people turn to P2P!

You mean the format the music is in isn't supported by iTunes? Or the optus website isn't compatible with Safari?

Just download firefox...

$2 a track. iTunes is cheaper anyway.

I was able to view it in Safari by using the 'Develop' menu in 3.1. and setting my user agent to IE6.

Not sure if it's got DRM or not - but lots of iTunes is 30c cheaper and DRM free.

I just thought it would be nice if there was some choice out there, you know.... I couldn't see the prices 'cause I couldn't load the site at all. If all the iTunes stuff was DRM free it would save all that fuss converting, burning etc. to get it onto the MP3 player. Ah well. Where do you all buy your music from? I am new to digital music purchasing and the gloss has worn off iTunes now, though they do seem to have the biggest range. Is there a better alternative out there?

Save your pennies and wait for the Amazon music store to go international this year. 256kbps MP3s with no DRM.

eMusic MP3 Music and Audiobook Downloads

An excellent, widespread selection, DRM free, 256kbps MP3 format. I love eMusic.

Just buy the CDs if you don't like DRM. Then you can rip to whatever format you like - DRM free

Do you use your credit card in the international stores? Or buy gift card's off eBay?

Plus there's something really satisfying about having a shelf full of music that's not going to disappear if a hard drive fails.

That is currently my preferred method.... but....technically, isn't it illegal to make any kind of copy of CDs too? Does this rule apply to ripping MP3s?

Record companies blame P2P piracy for the fall in CD sales, but surely the rise of the MP3 player is really to blame. Maybe they should ban the MP3 player!! LOL.

Copying a CD to your PC for your own personal use is generally considered 'fair use'.
