PSP Hacking - I want some Homebrew!
I just bought me a PSP Slim (very nice piece of hardware) and want to get some emulators on there to relive the old days on the go.
I've looked around and I'm confused as to how I can get apps and such on there. I've got a PSP Slim running 3.72 - any leads/tips guys?

PSP Hacks, tutorials, mods, cracks, utilities, homebrew is a good place to start.
I have a PSP Fat but I presume the processor is same/similar. My experience is that the Megadrive emulator is very cool (full speed for me) but SNES is slow and choppy (probably because the snes is such an awesome machine).
If you get the custom M33 firmware is should contain the PSX unlock...means you can just put PSX iso's in your GAME directory on the memory stick and go nuts playing PSX games.
Enjoy....

If you're running official firmware, you'll need something called a pandoras battery and a magic memory stick. They will allow you to flash custom firmware to the psp enabling homebrew.
I'd recommend checking out the forums at maxconsole.net. A lot of useful information is there. Including downgrading guides as well as a lot of homebrew stuff
Another one with a couple of guides is mypsp.com.au
Other than that, just google around or if you need any specific help feel free to pm me

Hey decryption.
3.72 requires you to hack the console using the pandora battery.
If you need a pandora battery, i'd be happy to mail you one on loan for you to hack your PSP with. you'll need to make the magic memory stick manually though which requires a PC and Pandora's GUI unfortunately, I think there is a way to do the stuff on Mac OS X but im not 100% sure. I'd loan you my magic memory stick BUT its my main stick so :P
Alternatively, QJ.NET - QuickJump Home - PlayStation Portable News - PSP Updates has a good range of brew and take my advice, stay away from maxconsole / PSPupdates forums unless you wish to be hoarded by noobs asking ridiculous things that you wont be able to help with anyway.
There's an apple IIe, sega CD and SNES emulator floating around so yeah.
Bartron, its the same processor however the PSP Slim has double the ram / Double the NAND space.
benproc: You can't downgrade slims, Slims do not go to 1.5 they go up to 3.90 M33 :P
I'd stick to psp-hacks guides, they are the most trustworthy of all as I sorta helped to compile them.
Any questions, don't be afraid to ask. I have had plenty of experience with this sort of stuff.

PSP hacking seems pretty hard compared to the DS hacking - was thinking of getting a PSP pre-hacked, this site here sells them... but is it really good value?

I also have a pandora battery I can loan you.. And I'm in melbourne so that may make things easier.
PSP Hacking isnt that hard at all, just have to read up a little bit.

true benproc however you have to load that separate.. I don't know why all the dev's havent added slim support. SDL apps are a piece of cake to change over just too many devs are lazy :P Developers have many more options in the later kernels!
Its hard to say that PSP hacking is easy if noobs don't even try googling, and just hit the forums while they erase everything in flash0.
I really want StrmnNrmn to get back from his hiatus and release R14 :P I already have an early build thats 2 months old and not much different compared to R13 except more bugs exist. It's hard when you are an official tester and the developer doesn't pitch in as much :P I'd be happy to offer it to you benproc, just let me know if you are interested.
Oh also it might pay to watch NEO Compo 2008 over the next few weeks. Lots of new games / applications coming in! InsertWittyName has a really nice one called Bugz or Bugs (check it out on youtube)

Why would you erase flash0, it wouldn't make any difference.
Pandora automatically does this anyway

You have to parse the PS1 games through a popstation converter first otherwise they don't work :P

Alright, I think I know what needs to be done:
Get a Pandora battery & make a Pandora boot disk, which will let me write a new firmware to the PSP.
Put the 3.71M33 firmware on the Pandora boot disk and then boot from it with the battery installed.
Once 3.71M33 is on there, I can upgrade to 3.90M33
Am I right?

Actually pandora has 3.80 M33 by default.
everything else is right.
You might also want to invest in a Go!Cam so you can do video / audio chats via skype in 3.90 M33 (there are also patches for 3.90 m33 via network update on that firmware)
