Hi all. This is one of those iChat-to-MSN issues in case the title sounded like something different.

I used to use msn.jabber.no but that has done it's once-every-so-often waffle where my contacts don't receive messages and I appear online when I'm not. I currently use an Openfire server on my MBP but I seem to find that if I do something to the server (including restarting it) I cannot log onto it, and if my friends change their avatars they aren't updated at my end (although better than no avatar support like before).

So, can anyone suggest to me a stable and secure MSN transport somewhere on some Jabber server out there that I might be able to use?

Didn't work = I logged into Google Talk in psi, did a services discovery of njs.netlab.cz, selected msn.netlab.cz and couldn't register (or, for that matter, get the usual text that appears next to the MSN icon that says "MSN Transport").

Or maybe I'm just doing something wrong.

Edit: msn.netlab.cz doesn't load in Psi's service discovery browser, nor does it let me register for anything (not that anything appears in the serv. discv. window).

If your using the gmail address as your msn id what's the prob.

Just to see what would happen, I created a login at njs.netlab.cz. These are the two service discovery windows I get:



My problem is that I can't do anything involving the msn transport when I'm using my Google Talk login.

PSI>menu>account setup>

then put you name in the box and tick register new account.

I'm sorry but I don't quite understand. I am registering the new account on which server? The netlab one?

And for some reason for me it's in Psi -> General (in menu bar) -> Account Setup.

would it be simpler to create an msn ID and go from there?

Ok, what I currently have: Google Talk account, passport.net account in the name of my google talk account (so my MSN buddies don't get confused with email and MSN addresses).

I am hoping to use PSI to do the following:

1. Log in to Google Talk
2. Use service discovery on njs.netlab.cz
3. Highlight the msn transport with my mouse in the service discovery window
4. Get the yellow key-like symbol light up in the series of tabs in the top of the service discovery window
5. Register with the msn transport using my passport.net account details

Unfortunately step 4 doesn't work. The key-like symbol does not light up. I cannot register for the msn transport unless I have logged in to the server itself, which I would prefer not having to do.

If I have to, I could, but I would really really prefer not having more than one Jabber login in use at any one time. Or having to suggest to those amongst my friends that I converted into getting a GMail account that they would have to get another account somewhere to go on MSN in iChat.

Why? what's the problem.

If you create a new msn ID, set up the transport, manually add all your contacts, they will then get a request for access, use an ID that will automatically let them know who you are (same username perhaps), then when it;'s all set up, let them know to delete the gmail ID.

It's not a huge problem, and once it is all set up you won't need to bother with it again. It just (like your Mac, Works!)

A friend suggested that this problem with me not being able to add the msn.netlab.cz onto my roster/list of transports might be because msn.netlab.cz is not a public transport.

I shouldn't need to create a new MSN ID, but a Jabber ID which appears to be what you're suggesting. Which means that no longer would my Chat and Email be integrated with one service. I would merely be using the Gmail username as the login name my MSN buddies see, with the Jabber service going through njs.netlab.cz .

Therefore I would have to have two contact lists for a single protocol, merely because msn.netlab.cz is inaccessible to those who are not using a login on the aforementioned server.

My original system was iChat -> Google Talk -> msn.jabber.no -> MSNLand
I am now using iChat -> Localhost Openfire server -> Localhost MSN Transport -> MSNLand. Which frankly feels like one account too many.
What you seem to be suggesting is I replace the openfire system (which I want to rid myself of) with one going:
iChat -> njs.netlab.cz -> msn.netlab.cz -> MSNLand
Whereas what I was originally hoping to get was:
iChat -> Google Talk -> msn.netlab.cz -> MSNLand

Chax allows you to put it all in one contact box.
