Newton: 2 + 2 = 4 (or another integer)

My apologies if this has been covered elsewhere - I did search

I am sure you have all heard the rumours surrounding the revival of the Newton.

It just occurred to me that, perhaps, similar rumours about a slim, aluminium MacBook are actually about the same device!

This is the article that led me to this epiphany. Prior to this I had thought that both were just the same idle rumours that had been titillating Apple fans for the past few years. Perhaps the iPhone/iTouch aren't the device that Steve described at the D: All Things Digital show when he was talking to Walt Mossberg.

What do you think?

Long overdue, although I sincerely doubt there'll be any way of running Newton software on it :P

Me, I'm still waiting (twenty years!) for the Knowledge Navigator!

Maybe this is why Apple have bought all the flash memory and created the worldwide shortage (Heard on The Maccast a few episodes ago)?

Wow... As a Newton lover from way back (and owner of a MP2000), I'd Love to see Apple resurrect the pint sized "small computer".

It would fit nicely now into Apple's range of products, and presumably sell pretty well given Apple's trendy new image.

Forgive my ignorance... but what's really stopping a small device like that from basically being a "full" computer? Just thinking of internal components, the hard drive and power source are typically the largest bits, but if it was using flash memory, and a rechargable battery...

I haven't seen an iPhone to know exactly how "Mac-like" its abilities and interface are, but imagine how cool it would be if the "iNewton" were basically capable of operating just like a handheld iMac...

Although I was tempted to call bulshit. I kinda think this is a logical step for apple to go down. Hopefully it has a phoen built in aka iPhone.
In all honesty they are trying to spam "multi touch" in as many producst as they can.

They couldn easily pull it off with the iphone interface.

Well, yeah, me too. On reflection it seems like a long shot. I find myself getting excited about an ultra-potable device combining features of the iPhone (multi-touch), with a small form-factor computer, a real convergence device.

Mmmm....
