Where do I find one of these? (Music equipment related)

I wasn't sure where to post this, but I've read the odd thread on here and know there are a few musoz around.

I have a Boss ME-8 Multi-Effects racks of which the power supply just recently died (SCREAMS LOUDLY!)

It has served me for ~10 years so I can't really complain, and I have another ME of a different variety on layby so I'm not too worried.

What I want to ask people is if they know of anywhere where I could find a replacement power supply for it.

Then I could possibly sell it or give it to someone who I know will use it

This may or may not be useful, but you will probably have one somewhere else in the house. I use an old cordless phone adapter with my ME-50.

What's the rating of the power supply (volts/amps). As long as you have a comparable adapter with the same volts, and amps the same or higher than your dead adapter, it'll work.

Jaycar sell a heap of somewhat overpriced adapters, you could take yours in and they should be able to match it.

Does the power supply have any info on it, if so take it along to your local Jaycar and see if they can supply one that outputs the same power and amps etc. Not to mention confirm if the inner or outer is + or -. Cause if you get that wrong you will blow the equipment.

Hm Jaycar hadn't thought of that. Might be worth a look see.

The IN is AC240V~50Hz 18VA, and the OUT is AC14V ~ 800mA.

I've tried to find one that does this weird combination, but perhaps Jaycar will have one.

Hmm that is a weird combination; looking at their catalogue (that's the book, not online!) they have a 17V/1.25A adapter but with bare wires at the end for some sort of house alarm,

Another suggestion would be Savers/pawn broker/Crack Converters, those places usually have a tub of power adapters that you might be lucky in finding a replacement. There is this place in Reservoir too, a "tip shop" at the Darebin tip that also have a lump of adapters kicking around. Along with some really, really shitty PCs

I went to DSE this arvo but sadly Boss manufactured these power adapter with big chunky plugs.

Didn't see anything in the DSE ones that matched. I also went to Tandy. Haven't tried Jaycar yet, but I suspect I will have the same problem.

my 2c worth

A 13.8V power supply will probably work. Even though the current is rated at 800ma, I'd go for something higher 1A or even 2A ....... your (whatever it is, I have nfi ) will only draw the current that it needs. A higher current rated power supply will run cooler than one rated at exactly what you need.

The voltage is more critical, but high quality gizmos will have a degree of latitude, and have internal circuitry to convert whatever is going in, to whatever it needs. Just make sure that the polarity of your plug is correct otherwise you can completely roger the circuitry. Having said that, most quality equipment will have protection circuitry or fuses anyway.

I use GME 13.8V power supplies for my radios and have been very happy with them. If you look on EBay for power supplies -> radio equipment you should be able to pick up a 2A job at a reasonable price.

Otherwise, as previously suggested, Jaycar is a good source... Also try Altronics

Oatley electronics may have some

as may Wiltronics

Cheers

Tim R

Oh, by the way, if you still have the old one I may be able to help you get the old plug connected properly onto a new power supply ...... pm me if you get into trouble
