Wireless router options other than Airport?

Hi. Can anyone recommend a wireless router option other than an Aiport Express - possibly something cheaper? I've heard good things about Netgear but no idea on what model/price.

I'm not opposed to an Express - just exploring other options. Signal strength is an issue. The existing modem is at one end of a house and the laptop will be used at the other end. I have tested it with my own Express (this set-up is not for me) and the signal from the express was not strong enough to reach the desired location. Don't really want to have to organise running long cable from the express to the modem....but may have to.....

Thanks
Chris

Netcomm are well designed and fairly priced, with many models of wireless adsl modem routers, depending on the extent of your needs.

cheers,

Is there any particular reason why your avoiding AirPort, if you want good range, I suggest the AirPort Extreme Base Station.

Ricky.

I use a Netgear 54mbps wireless adsl modem router DG834G v3. It cost about $170-180. It comes with 4 ethernet ports plus the wireless. We can use our iBook upstairs and on the opposite side of the house from the actual modem. I can't remember the exact range that it has, but I think it's pretty wide. Have had no problems.

Umart has the DG834G for $111, or at least they did last month when I bought it.

APC mag did a feature on adsl2+ modem routers, but the netgear didn't do all that well..

im pretty sure that if you got a wireless router, you could also get a wireless access point to extend the signal. Is this right?? i forget....

I have both a Netgear ADSL modem/router, and a Linksys Wireless router.

Both have never skipped a beat, however, I find the Linksys config. panel to be easier and quicker to use.

you can also pick up some of the old AEBSs at a discount, if your lucky!

I have an AEBS connected to my modem and wired to my mac (right next to it), and have it set up to work with my AX wired to my PS2 for online games. Wooo!

And the range is extremely good. The worst signal I get throughout the whole house is 45% (the tiles on the wall do something).

I can even walk 20m up my driveway and still get about 40%.

To top that off you could always plug in an antenna to the AEBS to extend the range EVEN FUTHER!

personally i love the Billion range. i use the 7404VGP-M which is a wifi integrated modem/router/voip ATA. they make plenty of non-voip models too.

I use Airport or Netgear - wouldn't touch D-Link or Netcomm with a 10-foot pole. Linksys isn't bad either.

Wouldn't touch Netgear with a 20-foot pole. Endless troubleshooting with their chip-sets.
