My wife is going to get one April next year, as she wants it for her birthday. So I am guessing once you have a friends code you can then chat to other people and play games online against each other right?

I have added everybody in this list (with the exceptions of The Fluffy Duck - we need your Wii Name! - and Erodica, whose number seems to be incorrect). Thanks to Toholio for keeping the list updated!

I don't have a Wii but I do have a couple of questions - what are these codes and what do they do when you add them to your Wii?

These codes are called friend codes. Every Wii has a unique friend code.

Now for these codes to work, both parties involved has to enter the other persons code into the Wii, i.e. I have to enter your code into my Wii and you have to enter my code into your Wii.

Once both people have entered the codes you can do the following things;
  • Play games against eachother (although no games support this yet)
  • Send messages to eachother
  • Send Mii's (human like avatars) to eachother
  • Allow Mii's to travel to other Wii's and to have Mii's travel to your Wii. For example you Mii's might decidce to pop over to my Wii and say G'day. They also might make a cameo appearance in any games I'm playing, such as Wii Sports.

I do not know what other friend functionality Nintendo has planned.
