Is there (i'm sure there is) a way of saving the youtube videos to my desktop in self contained files for later viewing? i'm doing a seminar next week and there's a few refs i'd like to use on the laptop at school.

cheers.
Jim. <_<

this site does the trick -> http://keepvid.com/

just follow the instructions its pretty straightforward

unfortunately youtube uses the .flv format (flash) so once you have it on your desktop you need to convert it to the video format of your choice (Mpg, avi, mov etc)

I find VisualHub ( http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/) is the best app for the Job but other people might have other suggestions.

or you can forget about converting it altogether and just use adobe flash player ( http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11622 ) which is in Beta atm to play the file.

Personally, the best one is TubeSock - which manages all the conversion and addition to iTunes. TubeSock is nicer and offers more intergration, although is shareware.

PodTube is a free application which does the same job and TubeSock but isn't as flashy and feature rich.

IMHO, you don't need an app. Just go to Window>Activity when you're dowloading a YouTube video, find the largest "youtube.com" file being downloaded, double-click on it and then "Save As" in Safari.

Nine times out of ten you will have a usable file. Then use a program like iSquint or ffmpegx to convert into an iPod or Quicktime friendly file.

Yes. You need an app to convert it to an iPod playable file. Not to save it.

Thanks for that.
