thanks for the info guys.
after talking with my mum it seems that she will be wanting to use the computer on the tv for some light surfing (she's trying to learn) so it looks like the Pana LCD is the way to go.

Have a look at the R series Samsung as well. These are rated very highly in the 32 LCD bracket. (im not sure how they compare pricewise).

As mentiond by cjm19, dtv forums are awesome (if not somewhat confusing due to the amount of info). I have been researching there for months (and my Pio 436 is on its way!)

If you are using it for a mix of browsing/tv/movies, then going with LCD is the right decision.
