Default HELP: PC on Apple Cinema Display

Hey guys,
i have an apple cinema display an an old compaq evo P4 machine. I want to use the ACD as the display. Can i do that and if yes how considering that the display is digital(DVI-D Male) and the PC has a analog VGA female port?

All help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Amzy

To go analogue to digital you'll need an obscenely expensive converter box - about $500AU. You'd be better off splashing down a hundred bucks on a new graphics card with a DVI-D on it.

You see the problem with that is that the Comapq Evo model that i have is extremely compact and does not have room for expansion!!!

You're going to want to buy a new PC then mate! Some evo models have a DVI module that can be installed, but i believe it is a factory-only option.

A Compaq EVO D5x0 series? Have the same one right by my side; low profile AGP video cards are readily available, you'll pay a premium for proper "low profile" models, but often budget cards like an FX 5200/6200 or Radeon 9250 are low profile just with a full-size bracket. Basically go to a swap meet and ask to check the dimensions of the card and you should be able to get a DVI-equipped AGP graphics card for well under $100.

The official Apple or DrBott ADC-->DVI adaptors aren't $500, more like $100 - 200 - keep an eye out on eBay for one.
