The coverage appears to be impressive in both its breadth and accuracy. Have a look a round and comment on the pro/cons for each city/state...

Yeah ... pretty impressive. The "mini map" in the bottom right corner is good too, or has it been there forever, and I havent noticed it?

Now all I need is satellite feed to my car withe the laptop on the psenger seat, and I wont need to buy that GPS unit.

Cool! I now have a better way to give directions to my house.

Doesn't seem to be any closer and clearer than before, but the bottom right map is something new.

The satellite maps don't seemed to have improved, but if you use the standard map (i.e. street directory style) it now has street information for Australia which it didn't before. Using the standard maps you can also zoom in further than you can currently with the satellite maps.

I don't think Google Earth has a standard map display though, so you have to use the web-based Google Maps.

Is there a track winding back near your house? Maybe an old fashioned Ford made of rubber, tin and board?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. A cub scout flashback when I saw where you lived :-)

(For those who have now idea what I am talking about, check this out:

Gundagai song

We changed a line or two in Cubs)

There is in fact... :P

Actually the original song was supposed to be about Bundaberg but the lyrics didn't quite fit.
Dad and Dave and Mum and Mable are still there though in Snake Gully (across the road from the Dog on the Tuckerbox)

Surely that's the next step given that it now contains a fairly accurate cadaestral (property) boundary layer. If they've got that, then they've got Lot/Street Numbers

The UK Google Maps edition allows searching and driving directions by UK postcode (which is somewhat more accurate and effective than Aussie postcodes), so expect that house/property number searching is just around the corner for oz. (e.g. As an example, check out this request for directions from my old house to Heathrow Terminal 4)

Thanks for the info!
I just checked my new home...
which is in a new development, and a couple of new streets - and VOILA!

It is there!

Shame they haven't updated the maps in Google Earth at the same time though.
Google Earth photos seem at least a couple of years old... and my home city is entirely covered by clouds?!

Oh yes and if you type in Canberra Australia... it zooms in on the Dept of Foreign Affirs and Trade building?!?!?!
Mmmm Downer thinks he is the centre of the universe?!??!?!

Where I'm moving to on June 14th - the roads in that development were only sealed two weeks ago, yet they're listed there as are the property boundaries for every house in the area. Well done Google - you know too much!

You'll probably find the lots/boundaries etc have been registered and sealed for a while, and they're already in the DCDB well before the bitumen arrives.

Everytime I look at this kind of brilliant yet simple stuff that Google is pulling together, it just makes me realise how true the comments are that Microsoft is lagging further and further behind in being a leader on the web.

oh well..

Now if only whereis.com.au would be updated?!?!?!

They use the same source data as both Gregory's and UBD street directories I believe... and the printed versions have been updated - but not the online one!
