Hmmm...we DO have a pool boy too.... although he is over 60 and ugly.

Anyone know if you need to have the DVD in the drive to play the game (I did pay for it, you know!!! ).

It happened to me a few times on windows games. I think it has something to do with the resolution? Maybe. I think you said you changed it in game though, so I'm not too sure.

OT - your sig annoys me (sorry) its "refurb" not "refresh"

I have read somewhere else that it didn't look as good or run as fast on the Mac. But when they installed it on Windows via bootcamp on the same machine it looked and ran much better. I am going to install it tonight and I'm trying to decide which way to swing.. I'd prefer it to be on my Mac of course but if its going to run better on Windows I'll play it that way..
I'm currently trying to make the same decision.
I've heard all sorts of reports from "runs way faster in Windows via bootcamp" to "runs exactly the same".

I have a feeling it will run quite a bit faster in Windows, but really can't be bothered installing it twice to compare (if the bloody thing installs at all, from all the crap I've been hearing about) so I may just do that. But... it would also be very nice to have the game a mere mouse click away, rather than a reboot into Windows.

It runs using Cider for the Mac, doesn't it? Just like Spore does. With that in mind, is it pretty safe to assume it would run better in Windows? Perhaps the real question is, "is the speed increase in Windows actually noticeable?"

Err...no.
Both the Shuffle and iMac he has listed in his sig were "refreshed" in Early 09 ie New Models.

On Topic, installing this now. Haven't played the Sims since the original one years back. Will update how it runs on a 3.06Ghz iMac.

Ah right. Sorry 'bout that! Slightly confused!

Going to get the game tomorrow I thinks, hopefully not too expensive at JB.
Anyone found a good price for it?

Should do.

Just not sure how the copy protection on the disk works.

$68.84 at BigW.

On topic, played it for a bit. Runs like a dream on my iMac. Love it so far.

Unbelievable the hoops they make you jump through when purchasing a legal copy.

At least Macs may have this workaround, but is making me think twice due to the inconvenience.

Running really well for me too. I've only run it on the mbp display so far at 1440.
(The system specs of what i'm running it on is in my signature)
Hopefully when I run it at 1920px tonight it will look even nicer and still manage it fine.
Loving the game so far, it's a nice mix of new and old. So many more features and things to learn though, but I think it's a good thing instead of over complicating the game.

It's running a little slow on my Macbook. It's OK in my Sim's house, but once I have him visiting his neighbours, it slows right down, and he stops between every animation for a few seconds each time. The other Sims don't respond to him either, he tried to shoo one out of the bathroom and she just stood there not moving.

Once I install Boot Camp I'm going to see how it runs on that. I really want to play but at the moment it's almost not possible.

Looks like I'll be running the game in windowed mode, so I have something to do while my sim has an 'evil slumber'. I don't know why my speed controls don't work.. :/ I also don't know why he takes up to a minute to interact with other sims when I tell him to.

I hope EA release a patch soon, with the number of weird bugs people have been reporting on the net.

Edit: When he wakes from his evil slumber, he's going to have an evil shower. He shall then have a quick meal, fiendishly...

I get a lot of screen tearing (iMac 2.4GHz running in XP via Bootcamp) even when I force Vsync on (and there's no Vsync option in the game).

Anyone else?

Seems ok for me.

(Mac Pro, at 2560x1600)

The Macbook Pro's fans run endlessly however, so I'm not going to be using it on that again.
