Default Halo

So yeah I know I'm old skool but I play Halo. (remember Bungie dev'd it for Mac originally!)

Damn its hard to buy a real copy of the mac version!

I had to buy a 2nd hard PC version and run it on boot camp.

I do have a the Bit torrent mac version (shock horror!) but its pretty limited.

Just wondering if there were any other Halo players out there, what there OSX experiences have been, and if you've been in a clan.

Cheers

I played Halo in single player using a "legally acquired" version. I had the same problem as of finding one to buy in the real world.

It worked as expected, but I haven't tried multiplayer...

I've got an original Xbox sitting unused and one of the two games I actually own are Halo. Still the best game on the original Xbox, even better if you have the surround sound pack.

I play multiplayer... never finished the single player mode... got too interested in multi...

I play under the nic Marathon, which very rarely gets a comment... but it's nice when it does.

I own... the Marathon Trilogy box set...

I have the PC version but I played it through Single Player on Mac.

God it was boring. I found the whole thing to be a total grind. I played it through just so I could mark it off my list of games I had bought but had yet to play/finish.

The original game being developed by Bungie for Mac looked so promising, but once Microsoft got a hold of it, it seems too much of it changed.

I liked the way the Covenant had their own language in the early videos and the 3rd person perspective as well.

I didn't think much of the weapons in the final game, I found the level design to be extremely boring (The Library anyone?) and I found the enemy speech to be annoying.

God I hated that, just finished that section... I never knew which way I was meant to go, found myself going the wrong way around 8 times... I knew it was wrong when there was no Flood around...

Play Halo every day , but only on a 360. Sorry Halo 3 is the only way to go, sometimes I play Halo 2.. but its all about the multiplayer. Never got into Halo 1... too boaring.

eBay has from time to time Halo but only from international sellers.

I have the PC version, it is a great game. Much prefer multiplayer over single player.

YEAH ME TOO!!!

Loved the whole Marathon saga - wasted years of my life on that thing!

Do you have open source Aleph One?

So is Halo 2 worth it? I mean I'd have to install Vista just to play the sucker (can't afford a 360)

I tried Aleph One (multiplayer)... but didn't impress me... not sure if I'm too used to Halo now, or if it just runs crap on my eMac.

Also don't have money for a 360... and don't have the hardware for running Windows fast enough to play Halo... (aforementioned eMac). Halo 1... I guess I don't know any better, so I think it's ok.

Aleph One is pretty nice with the high-res texture packs on a Mac Pro w/ 8800GT! It's just kinda weird seeing everything in modern high-res, with ugly looking sprites for the weapons.

I've only played single player A1, I don't have any friends who like Marathon.

My issues with Aleph was

a) Resolution/graphics just felt so... old
b) Speed was not great for gameplay (probably my eMac)
c) Controls seemed wrong after Halo

I just went into online mode and found people to play with...

Yeah Doesn't Aleph feel old visually.
But its nice for nostalgia value.

There was a remake of the original Marathon done using the Unreal Tournament engine (called Marathon Ressurrection I think) which brought it all up to date (well at least to 3D graphics!)

Here it is

Marathon:Resurrection

There's real dejavu at times playing Halo - I'm sure they used some of the sound effects for stuff and seeing the Marathon Logo everywhere etc

LOL "frog blast the vent core".... ah the memories....

Anyone tried PC Halo using Fusion/Parallels?

Yeah, I wish I didn't have to download it, it would be much more enjoyable.

Yep I do that as well. It's a pity the PC game serials don't work for the mac version.

And now with the latest release almost all of the "bad" serials are not working

Actually I do play in a clan, but it's been becoming really stagnant lately, and most of the members are PC users. If you want to check it out, go here.

As for OS X, experiences, I find that it just doesn't seem as good on a mac. For one, the speech and notifications in MP are pretty bad, and don't show up in the post game carnage. Apart from that and a few other annoyances, anything else wrong is wrong with the game, not with the OS it's being played on.

Well, there's my two cents...

Well I spent a few hours trying to get HaloPC to work using crossover 7.
...and no joy despite following all the hints of those who've succeeded!

Is it just me, or have all the "good" servers disappeared suddenly?

Also... I get no ping scores now...

Anyone here still playing Halo?

Is there a Halo forum that people hang out on? I know there still seems to be... clans? tribes? groups of people with [xyz] in front of their nick... Just sometimes after a good Haloing, sometimes feel like bragging... :} (more often of course just feel like crying )
