Although you get USB power, laptop power is only on premium economy. And all you need to use the US power is an adapter.

As someone who has travelled and worked overseas, I can back this up. The easiest/cheapest way I found for an adaptor is to purchase a US 'figure 8' lead and that will fit into your MBP. As for using it on the plane... well, I found that it was a bit too cumbersome! I decided early in the trip that I was much better off with my iPod and the onboard movie channels.

Another idea for you if she's bringing a few accessories and what-have-you along with her that require power (hair dryers etc). This only applies if they support auto power switching (show they accept 100-240v on the power supply).
Grab yourself the US to Australian plug adapter and bring along a standard power board. That way you don't have to buy a handful of adapters and she can also plug a number of things in. |

+1 this idea, did it when we travelled to Europe and UK a couple of years ago. Worked a treat.

utility frequency in North America is 50 Hz (Aus = 60 Hz). Apple notebooks and I think all of their products would have a 50-60 Hz rating. Hair dryers however even if labeled as "travel" are not always 50-60 Hz, GHD makes a 110-240 v / 50-60 Hz sold only at salons.

hello...........If using the In Seat Power Supply (ISPS), which applies to our Upper ClassŪ and Premium Economy cabins, the laptop battery must be removed before connection to the seat is made. While the battery is removed, it should be placed into a plastic or airsickness bag to protect the battery terminals from touching any metal surface. But you may want to research to see if you're seat will actually have in-seat power
