Somebody must have licensed the MagSafe connector… (or do they buy the cable and put a new plug on the end?)
![]() They even come in sizes. ![]() |

Nice idea... the big one is mega pricey though!

They're great, but the only issue I see is that you have to have a box dangling along you as opposed to just sliding in a separate battery. That said, the giant 222-watt-hour one looks like something I need for the next Apple store opening/iPhone release/tech-talk, haha
I like how there's a USB port too, so you can plug in your iPhone and charge that simultaneously.

Actually our MagSafe connectors are obtained from the original Apple MacBook AC power adapters.

The problem is now all the new MacBook models have non-removable batteries. You can leave the HyperMac battery on the floor, run the MagSafe power cable to your MacBook and have a clutter-free workspace.

![]() I'd imagine that if Apple did licence them it would be cheaper - unlikely though it seems.

But a good product you have nonetheless.

Nice idea, but only a hack to get around the fact that Apple (in my opinion) dropped the ball with the non-removable battery. WIth my pre-unibody 17" MBP, I could carry a spare battery. Or not carry it to save weight. Or pack two if I'm going bush. Now, I don't have the choice.
For my money, if they had spare room in the 17" MBP, they would have been better off building in the AC circuitry, cos I'm almost always carrying the "brick". If Steve Jobs has any class, the first thing he'd do when he gets back to Apple is declare ware on the brick! |

I think the sealed battery is a great idea. If you have extraordinary needs and Apple doesn't have a solution, Apple would be wise to license the Mag Safe adaptor to people who are prepared to step up. You can argue that unlicensed third parties might inadvertently manufacture faulty adaptors, but Apple have set the precedent here and sold faulty adaptors themselves. It can happen to anyone. And, by not making a licensed solution available, are Apple leaving themselves vulnerable, by leaving their customers vulnerable? All credit to HyperMac for saving us from such a dilemma. |

Wow, this is really cool, I'd be really interested to know how they actually go in real life, not so much benchmarking battery life, but clunkiness and portability. I know i'm always trying to minimise the size and weight of what I carry around, and the size of my MBP often means my seating choices are limited as it is.

I love to get one of these!! Would they work in Australia? I mean, for charging the external battery itself, if it just works, I am sold!!
