You're right about the Dell Mini 12 choy. In doing some research I discovered you can't bump it up to 2GB as there's slot and the drive is PATA, so I can't get anything faster.

The Wind is nice, I must admit. Might be an impulse buy once this cheque clears

Fine, but that doesn't make the Air a netbook, it just means Apple doesn't have one. No one in their right might would be thinking "I need a cheap, small portable computer, I can get a 9" $549 Dell netbook, or a 13" $2899 MacBook Air". They're not in the same category, and they don't compete. Apple has no netbook.

I'm also very tempted by this. I'd love a Macbook Air, but it way too expensive for my needs. A small netbook running OS X would be perfect. I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread. It will be interesting to read about other mactalkers experiences doing this. Unless of course Apple bring out their very own netbook soon.

My bro-in-law, a Linux geek, got an MSI Wind and is starting to appreciate XP. I need to get OS X on there fast!

Can you guys please explain to me what would be the difference between a 6cell and a 3cell batt? I'm comparing netbooks, would like one , but am very new at this. And although I am a Mac user (have an Imac), am no way techno savvy enough to be a Hackintosh so will probably have to just use the netbook on the OS it comes with (Linus or XP). Trying to follow the info on the www re: making netbooks OS X compatible made my head hurt

I want to buy a Dell Mini 9 and run Ubuntu for travelling.

Anyone know how I can get some sort of discount on it?

I refuse to pay retail price for a dell, surely theres some way of getting it down to $500?

I'm absolutely lovin mine!
I do agree with you regarding the iPhone. Whilst it is great to check emails on the run, fire back quick / short replies... I can't imagine relying on it for all my email requirements on the road.

ooooh the MSI Wind U210 looks awesome. If it comes out in a reasonable timeframe and with a reasonable price, I don't think I'll be able to resist

Bought an MSI Wind U100 for $599 with 2GB RAM/6 cell Battery from orangeit.com.au in Sydney CBD.

I am running XP and Windows 7 Beta (currently dual boot).

I have done an install of OS X to see how it went from an external DVD drive. All worked fine and was very seamless. Back running Windows 7 for the time being.
