Ordered a Macbook 2.0ghz. Was meant to be delivered today but TNT didn't have time so they are re-delivering Thursday (busy tomorrow). So annoying!

I ordered my macbook 2.4 from apple last thursday. The said it would be there by next friday week. TNT delivered it Tuesday today.

What a glorious machine it is. I thought the 2006 macbook I got was the bee's knees, but there is no bits of a bee's anatomy that can describe this machine. Bee's wings?

The trackpad is supreme. The machine is so strong. The screen makes the other look dull, boring and stupid. The keys light up! Its magical.

What fun it is to have a new machine and fiddle about getting this and than from your old one! Its so much fun, you want to reinstall, and do it again! How stupid is that.

And all we got from this site about the new machines was despondency, resentment, anger and non-sense. They are small minded mercenaries who like to hear their own minds muttering.

I'm not a huge fan of the glass bezel. Fingerprint magnet.

I've had mine for about 5 days now.

It is a problem. "Magnet" maybe not the best metaphor. Perhaps "flytrap" or "stickpad". There is a need to be cleaning your screen on a regular basis.

The white plastic MB's had an obvious problem. Yellow stains on the keypads, and the poor quality of the top. Which I have had to replace two times. Thank you Apple Care. And my old macbook will get a new top again before I pass it on to the new user.

The new aluminum top feels cleaner, and a lot stronger. The plastic/aluminium difference was an key point in the old macbook/macbook pro specs. But there was also the graphics differences. All these factors have now become blurred. Now it seems to be a question of screen size and firewire. It seems now to be a fine point of difference, and calibrated to difficult price points.

Don't forget the black MacBook. That was the biggest fingerprint 'flytrap' that I've used. Although it wasn't glossy like the white MacBook, the black picked up fingerprints, oils, etc from sweaty hands.

White MacBooks were great for hiding fingerprints as it was not so obvious. I had to replace the top case (palm rest + keyboard) two times in 2 years.

That is odd. i assumed that black was good to hide human grease. I guess it is the old mat versus glossy debate!

All I can say is that I hope the finish on the new macbooks at least offers the possibility of a quick clean. I trust that the new build will not result in repeated visits to get the top case replaced.

I should also add that the illuminated keys on the 2.4 are a nice gizmo. When my wife saw them, her first question was "Can you turn that off?".

The new ones will be just like the MacBook Pros/PowerBooks of old, but better (they should be, anyway!). So I am hoping for no warps, dents, etc but it could happen since it's aluminium. I wouldn't be surprised to see dents but less warping due to heat.

You'll probably get 'spots' developing over time rather than cracks. Sort of like the old MacBook (white) keyboard stains, but just a fading of the aluminium over time - I think sweat does this. I'm not sure, but these spotty marks come up in very fine detail.

You can turn off the keyboard illumination as well (if you wish), in System Preferences. F5/F6 for the intensity adjustments.

Do you reckon InvisibleShield would have solved the problem if you had put it on earlier?
Still contemplating on whether InvisibleShield is a necessity for the new macbook....

I think so. But then again, I have never used any of those shields/covers. Not on iPod, iPhone, MacBook, etc. I like the feel of the machines without anything getting in the way. Just a quick wipe down with a hot, damp (not wet) cloth will do the trick for black MacBooks.

Yes. First generations are prone to faults. But if it were not for fools, the wise would not feel virtuous.

Haven't picked up any noticeable finger print on the bezel myself. Its easy enough to open without touching the glass.

Gah, TNT are hopeless. I tell them not to deliver it today as no one is home. Call them up today and say I will come pick it up from their Airport depot today. They call back and tell me that it is already out for delivery today.

So it's still getting re-delivered tomorrow, unless they try to deliver today, fail and then that cancels my instruction to deliver tomorrow and I have to call them again....

I had the black macbook before. The major difference is the entire case was a fingerprint magnet. It was really difficult to keep it clean looking. On the new macbook/pro, the case is fine, but because the screen is glass, the new screen is a fingerprint magnet

I have the pro now so difficult to compare but its feels really solid. Its cold to the touch and it just feels more robust. I'm guessing the macbook has the same construction now so it should be the same. Screen is much thinner than before.

If you think I am tempting you, I suggest you avoid going to an Apple store or reseller, because when you see what it looks like in the flesh, you credit card is going to get punished. I ended up spending extra on the Pro because of the firewire, but I can honestly say I do not regret it at all, best move I made.
