Default Macbook pro

Hi All,
I am thinking of up grading to a Macbook Pro or Macbook next year and just wondered how reliable is Mac os X Leopard as compared to Os X tiger.

I currently have Imac with tiger running on it and had no problems. I just wanted to hear from anyone who have a Macbook Pro or macbook with Leopard and to see if they have had any problems what so ever with it.

Is there any much difference between a Macbook and Macbook pro as I am looking at both to see which will be better for me.

Hope someone can take the time to let me know

Cheers

Stewy

Hi stewy, welcome to the Mactalk forums

Mate, if Leopard had problems, Apple would not include it on millions and millions of their computers that they sell which is already pre-installed with MacOSX Leopard Absolutely no problems with Leopard compared to Tiger, Leopard has been out for quite some time now and is stable

MacBook - lighter and smaller, good for everyday tasks such as browsing and word processing
MacBook Pro - with dedicated graphics it will be more capable with games and demanding apps

If you want a notebook just so you can have a portable machine for simple tasks, get a MacBook, but if you want something with a lot more grunt then get the Pro.

MacBook's are only available in a 13" model while MacBook Pro's are available in 15" and 17" models. MacBook Pro's can have up to 2.6Ghz of processing power while MacBook's can only reach 2.4Ghz. MBP's have firewire 400 and 800 while MacBook's only have firewire 400 (I think). The graphics in the MacBook Pro are better than the MacBook but there are rumours about MacBook's being upgraded to nvidea graphics. The following image is off the Apple website:

I bought my MBP in March this year and haven't encountered any problem with it yet.

Features of MBP that MB doesn't have

- Larger screen and LED backlit display
- Multi-touch trackpad
- Dedicated graphics
- Backlit keyboard
- Firewire 800 port
-Express card/34 Slot
- Up to 2.6 GHz processor

Like every version of Mac OS X, 10.5 was buggy to start with, but currently they've fixed almost all of the issues.

Probably the big differences between a MacBook Pro and MacBook are the graphics chipset and the expandability. On my MBP, I have a 2-port eSATA card, FW800 drives, Apogee Duet (FW400), all sorts of USB devices and 24" display all happily running off it. When I recently had a weird freeze, I thought it's going to be fun tracking it down with all the gear I have plugged in! It's running fine now though. I wouldn't even reboot it except that running Aperture, iPhoto, VMWare and browsers with many tabs open eventually forces a lot of memory to be paged out to disk, so once a week it gets a reboot.

Wait until Tuesday for an update before you buy - you might regret it otherwise!

As an owner of both a macbook and a macbook pro, i'd suggest if you can afford it, get the pro. It's a more solid machine in general and the dedicated graphics makes a big difference when using it in a fairly normal way

The macbook is great, but I still prefer the macbook pro keyboard too. The backlit keyboard is also very handy for night time flights.

Either way, I think you'll be happy but as mentioned, there's updates in a few days. Wait for Wednesday Australian time. You'll see some new machines to ogle and look over
