Default Macbook Pro Ram

Hi guys,

I was just wondering any of you know whether it would be alright to insert 2x Kingston KVR667D2S5/2G ram into the MBP? I read from Kingston's website that the KTA-MB667K2/2G are made for Macs but was just wondering whether there's any differences between the KVR and KTA. Reason being MSY and other computer shops can sell the KVR at cheaper prices whereas I can't seem to find cheap KTAs in Melbourne.

Thanks!

I am pretty sure it will work in Apple products.

Corsair also make "Apple" memory but you can buy the generic stuff and it will still work, also from Corsair.

Kingston is no different.

Use StaticIce.com.au to look for memory.

I've got 2x 2GB sticks of Kingston SODIMMs in my MBP. The serial number is KVR667D2S5/2G. It's working fine with no problems.

I got it from MSY Technology Pty. Ltd.-The Name you can trust-more than 10 years in computer industry. Was $98 for the 2 sticks.

Is 4Gb recommended? Or is 3Gb good enough. I am on 3 at the moment.

I have 4GB, and I routinely use it all, mainly because I have VMware running for .NET development, and typically have a bunch of other workspaces filled with applications (Eclipse, FF, iTunes etc).

It's important to note that not all MBP's support 4GB. Have a look here: MacBook Pro - Mac Guides Depending on the revision, you're MBP may support 3GB or it may support 4GB.

If you don't notice any slow downs and don't run too many things at once, 3GB should be fine. Either way, RAM is cheap these days, so if your Mac supports, why not?

I have 4GB of Corsair Apple RAM, but must admit that I have never really utilised it (it is still nice to have the RAM maxed out though).
