Wanted: Web Design for 68kshrine.net

Hi, I thought i'd set a challenge for you Mactalkers.

If you are interested in old school mac games and you can develop websites without the aid of iWeb then you are needed!

What we need is a website that will accept data from the website itself without the need to use FTP however i'd like to be able to log in and add new games via the webpage itself also would like to assign users ( to name a few Byrd, mechcon, LCGuy and a few others) to be able to add games themselves so that the site can be built up properly. The current design is quite poor when it comes to searching, viewing large screenshots and adding games is a pain. Preferably using PHP technology.

categories would be standard game catagories like genre, rating.

I'll be honest, I can't do websites.. No good at em

My aim is to have the most classic mac game sites on the web.

The Logo currently is this
Click the image to open in full size.

I have some games / a couple of screenshots here for your reference and testing
Index of /68k

I have about 150 games that need to be uploaded and I cant be bothered managing them in iWeb.

Lets make the deadline the 31st of march so you'll have three whole weeks

The best of the best will get a Nintendo 64 with 2 controllers, Mario Kart, goldeneye and pilot wings OR a super nintendo with 1 game also a contribution from the donations we receive.

Second Prize : Powerbook 540c packed with games

Third Prize: $10

This is all i can offer at the moment, prizes may be changed from time to time.

Good Luck guys, lets hope a few prizes helps.

P.S once the site is up and running, We will be needing a hand with getting some new games up.

I'll have a crack! I'll base it on wordpress so you can easily update with your own content and manage users.

Gimme a few days and i'll hit you up with a link.

I don't understand what the draw is to use wordpress for sites that are not really news item based (ie blogs).

I guess im saying please explain.

Wait you are right there phoenixonline..

I was thinking a bit before, where the hell can i view a listing of all the games..

I doubt I can...

I'll see what CMYK comes up with, otherwise a PHP page would be nice.

Aren't news items are just articles with an emphasis on the date the article was posted? Wordpress just provides a simple system to manage this.

Wordpress is highly customisable and works really well for sites that need frequent updating, but don't require a full-blown content management system. Some simple template work can turn Wordpress into pretty much any kind of site. And the UI for posting new articles is very easy to use.

Community is large.
Plug-ins are plentiful.
Easy for developers & easy for end users.

So, why not?

Wordpress gives full access to the posts database.

If each game is setup as a post any decent WP/PHP developer should be able to query up a list of all games.

Or you can run WP for the main part of the site (news/updates), and a second custom system for games pages. Several retro games sites do this:

Retro Remakes — Classic Gaming For The Next Generation
abandonia

I recently did a WP-based video page for this site: TwoTap.tv » Videos

When viewing a specific video WP uses a customised query to pull video streams from YouTube into a customised Flash player. A second custom WP post query is used to show a list of recent videos at the bottom of the page. Was quick to implement thanks to WP's flexible post querying.

If you can envision your content as being a set of articles being added on a regular basis, WP should be able to handle it.

Hmmm. I see what you mean with the WordPress sites. Anyone else got any links to other custom sites that are based on WordPress but have custom mods?
