Default iBook G3 problem

Hi Guys,

My iBook has been plating up. I was typing away in word last week, whilst on battery power, and the screen froze and I got the spinning umbrella. I switched it off and now it won't start. If I press the power button I hear the chime and then the screen sort of backlights and then.... nothing!

I plugged in the power adaptor and still no go. I changed batteries with the power chord still in and it worked. Then unplugged it and it worked.

Now again it won't start up. I connected a firewire cable and started up in target disk mode and it worked but there was a red low battery warning at the bottom of the screen.

I hope this is enough info. Can anyone help?

Dom

More info on the model of your iBook and which Mac OS you're running on it...

I suspect your iBook has gone the way of the dreaded logic board failure, but try ..

- Pull RAM from the user-upgradable slot
- Disconnect battery and leave the iBook unused for 24 hours (to reset PRAM etc).
- Place firm pressure on the left handrest of your iBook before booting it up (this is where the graphics chipset resides and is the focal point of said logic board failure!)

Reset PRAM ...start machine after tone hold down Apple key , option key and P+R Keys until you hear tone again and release...PRAM Reset. or after tone.. Apple = Option keys +O+F Keys, wait for White screen. type.. Reset-nvram (enter) Reset-all(enter) you have rest open firmware.

So could it be a faulty battery then, thats causing the computer not to start up?
