Very very hard? Huh? As a tech, I love working with MacBooks, they are one of the easiest machines to work on and fix.
Willow, as long as you have the right screwdrivers, an old magnetic-strip card and an ice-tray you'll be fine. Here are some instructions on how to switch the top-case: MacBook Core Duo Disassembly: Installing Upper Case - MacBook Parts |

It takes about 5 minutes to take off and its not hard.
Just be weary of the dummy screw *gulp* (I need a new Upper case, its got scratches on it) Wally

and no its not my every day job.. I have a shit Traineeship, if you ever bothered to read Meet the Mactalkers. As Simo suggested, there are plenty of guides to do so on the internet, you have no argument oh and 95% of the guides are reliable.. ifixit, macfixit and powerbookmedic are quite reliable and sell parts to fix these machines.

Only just did this for my MB C2D after a coffee mishap...........
Wasn't that hard at all, like many above have said , there are a number of guides around. I used the iFixit guide (read through it before you commence and a tip - you can make the pictures bigger which helps to clarify certain aspects of the job) and I bought a new top case from powerbook medic (quick delivery by FedEx). MB has been stripped down, cleaned, dried and repaired for only about $180Au which is a hell of a lot cheaper than taking it to my nearest Mac1 monkey tech and having him stuff around with it and tell me what I already knew. Enjoyed it immensely!! |
