Inaccurate weather forecasts seem to be an eternal source of frustration for many users on this forum, myself included. Using Australian forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology seems to be the way to go, which is what this widget does.

Widget name: Weather Australia
Available at: http://www.tamham.com/software/weather_australia/

Note:
--This is my first widget -- and first javascript project -- and I hope to improve the coding and design substantially.
--Forecasts won't update correctly until you've chosen a state and location.
--The selected location isn't retained in the preferences drop down list.
--More features to be added in future, but please post any feedback or ideas on this forum.
--For those wanting current temperatures, Degrees DU is the way to go.
--The Bureau of Meteorology doesn't provide full forecasts for all locations, so in many cases you'll see some blanks.

Enjoy!

The text wrapping in the forecast itself needs some work - see attached pic.

If you wanted pretty icons you could parse the text for key words for each day like cloud, showers, clearing, etc and figure out pretty accurately what icon to use based on if 1 or a multiple of the key words are in the forecast. You'll find the BOM have a fairly standard set.

Apart from that, Well done for your first attempt. I just installed it so will try it over a couple of days.

Plain looking, but very effective. Nice work.

Arty, thanks for posting the screenshot

Thunderstorms is indeed a very long word, but easily fixed. Download the widget again and it should look a bit better.

I'll give it a go for a while...

must admit though I did chuckle when I had to use NSW to find Canberra.
Any chance of current temperature being the next feature to be added?

Thanks all for the comments/testing, much appreciated.

Kildare - I've increased the font size a little, see what you think.
DJY - thought about adding current temp, but DDU does such a nice job already and it would seem like duplication.
Kuma - I've made a few tweaks for text overflow. Long forecasts now get trimmed, but hovering the mouse over the text will show the full forecast.

Updated version available for download from the same link above.

I don't think it would be a duplication.

I currently still run the accuweather one AND DDU.
Accuweather is often grossly inaccurate... and DDU only does current temp - not even min & max expected or reached today.

I'd love to be able to just have one weather widget with reliable current temp (today's min / max) as well as forecast for the next few days.

I'm sure there are lots of people who would also agree... then you put links via a few sites and watch the thousands of downloads!

Great widget, I have been waiting for this one for a while.

While I agree that DDU does a great job, I don't think that adding a curent temp to your widget is so much duplication as consolidation. It makes far more sense to me to have one weather widget that includes all the info you need, rather than needing to have two.

Yeah, great widget, I too would like the current temp. Icons would be cool too.

Keep up the good work.

I like it. Some icons would be nice :P

If you require an artist. I have lend a hand (but don't abuse it, I'm a busy man :P )

On the next revision, include Bankstown airport. I live right near it. :P

Cheers
