Default Pulling My hair out, going crazy, harmony remotes..

So..

I bought this thing, have been editing the power on sequence and button press delays but im boned. Spent about 8 hours over afew days on this thing and its gone my head in.

If in activities, you go play dvd, the tv changes to the right input, the dvd player powers on and press's play. All Good..

If you then in activities ask it to play TV, it stops the dvd, enters the input selection screen, powers off the dvd, and starts cycling the inputs BUT, the dvd player ( sony media player, dvd, cd, radio with external speakers and sub ) says standby...then as it powers off, cause the tv is cycling the inputs, its like the dvd players power off breaks the tv's concenrtration and stops cycling to the right channel.

the dvd powering off, and the tv going to the default blue screen stuffs up the input cycling.

ive tryed delaying the power off, doesnt help. Tryed changing the power off order, no dice. nothing I do can stop the dvd players signal dropping off and envoking the default blue screen and thus breaking the input cycling.

So ive got it to work, if i tell the remote not to turn off the sony system, but I want it to work. ( it works fine if i leave the sony on all the time ) but i dont want the power on to it all the time.

I was thinking if i bought a dse remote av changer, i could get the remote to change the av, before the sony can power off, and thus letting the input cycle do its magic and also thus letting the harmony use the activites button...but thats another 99 bucks, ontop of the 99 for the remote and the 8 hours of my time...not including setting up the new dse av switcher into the system...lol

cheap tv, soniq, expensive sony system, and im really really over it...

any help ?

If you haven't already, tell the remote to leave the DVD player powered on, then check if the same input cycling problem happens. If it does, the problem isn't your DVD player.

Otherwise, try changing the order so that the DVD is powered off last, and add a delay so that the input cycling is finished by the time it happens.

Alternatively you could see if there's an option to set the TV directly to the required input, rather than cycling. Under Devices > TV look for buttons like "Input-HDMI", "Input-Video1" etc. If you have these, you can go directly to the required input without the DVD player interfering.

Also moved this thread to the correct forum.

Hi,

First post here for me, MacBook owner for about 6 months now.

I have had a Harmony 880 remote for about 3 years and I love it.

There is lots of dedicated support for these on this forum:
RC Forums: Harmony Remote Controls Index

Enjoy..

DVD power on it all works,

DVD power is off last, but with the sequence as it is, it goes tv input, DVD stop, tv cycle input, DVD power off and it goes to standby and thats where the error occurs.

My tv's lame, has a source button, then you have to navigate down a large list of inputs to get back to tv. Tv, video, svideo, y1, y2, VGA, hdmi. It's a long list.

Might try the forum, but I've tryed nearly every setting

This is what I do with my Panasonic plasma TV, Pioneer DVD and Sony AV receiver.

But if your TV doesn't have this direct input selector option then I guess the only way is to cycle through the inputs. Definitely check out the Harmony forum.

Sounds like you havent used all the settings you have available.

I have the 1000i and it is very good. If i am watching all i need to do is go back to the activities screen and press TV and the DVD recorder will turn on, the set top box will turn on and the AV receiver will change to TV from DVD. My TV stays on HDMI input all the time as everything runs through the receiver. Sounds like you have it set to turn your Sony system off. Double check all power options..

OR erase the remote and start again and pay careful attention to the computer prompts each step of the way.

Good luck though

HDMI provides some simple remote control between devices, too. For example, I've set my TV to turn the AV receiver on and off. Is any of that enabled on any HDMI connected devices of yours?

Cheers
Steffen.
