Default Watch out Yellow Pages, BLOO.com.au is here!

http://bloo.com.au

An online directory for everything you need, it was just launched last week and is purely an online directory.

Give it a month or two and this will blow YellowPages off the planet.

my thoughts exactly.

i can't believe no one has complained about the physical yellow pages being delivered to every household in the country by default, with no "would you like this?".

the ridiculous thing is, it's not even based on phone lines. i don't have a fixed phone line, and they still gave it to me. how many trees do you think is wasted by the printing of unnecessary physical yellow pages.

Sensis have also agreed to share their data with google, and abandonded whereis maps. Soon google business listings will be incredibly accurate (maps search integration anyone?).

Yep I recall reading that but does anyone know when the data merging was meant to be completed? I thought it was Feb 2009 but the Google data is still not up to scratch.

Gee, and a search for Brisbane returns nothing either!@ Explain to me how a WA-Centric website is going to "blow yellowpages out of the water"?

I saw a big billboard for this in Northbridge the other day. Doomed to fail.

Hope it's better than Askted which was WA only. Got the crappiest results ever from that "search" engine.

People have.

But that's not the point. Sensis will continue producing one directory for every household because that is how they sell their advertising. If they could only get their books in 50% of houses, or more likely less, then they would find it extremely hard to charge the sort of money they do for ads.

That the majority of people don't even remove the book from it's plastic wrapper before throwing it into the recycling bin doesn't matter: so long as they're delivered to all 10+ million households and as many businesses then they can claim an ad could potentially reach the entire population.

Eventually, though, people will stop paying for ads they know aren't being seen, and Sensis will have to find some other means of revenue.
