Default Adobe Flash Message: What does it mean?

Hey there... I just got this when I went to the news.com.au website (leaving ninemsn.com.au after checking my hotmail email)...

Click the image to open in full size.
Click for full size - Uploaded with plasq's Skitch

What does it mean? I remember a friend had some About:Blank horror fight on his PC with some hijacking thingy... is that what this is??

Hmm.. didn't know Flash had any security messages.. I don't think that's official.

I can't see how it would say "about:blank" as that's the setting for IE on PC. Neither safari nor firefox use the "about:blank" in the address bar as far as I know. Are you on a PC??

I'm confused.

if you play dufus which is flash based a message similar to that will appear. i needed to set the security settings of flash player to allow that dufus game to log on to their servers so i can log in. its an mmo btw, not that spectacular.

ive never seen that come up though after leaving hotmail. i even tried it out now and that message didnt appear.

It's a legit Flash Player security sandbox message - local SWF files are blocked from accessing remote data for security reasons.

Why it's happening when you are leaving a site is the weird part...
Aside from the annoyance factor, I wouldn't worry about it.

btw, what browser does this happen in?

It does, and it is.

Have you actually tried "about:blank" in safari or firefox? It works a treat

Haha yea I've set both to blank page, but I don't recall seeing it say about:blank. Maybe I just never noticed.

As others have pointed out, this is a real flash message. It's been part of the flash environment for a few iterations now that swfs will not allow cross-domain access as a safety measure without a specific coding work-around.

Looks like something has gone bad with a served up flash advert and the cross-domain script isn't in place.

I wouldn't allow the process, and then I wouldn't worry about it after disallowing (by clicking OK).
