G'day,

So who do you use for your broadband connection? How much does it cost? How many Mb can you download? Is the connection then speed-limited or do you pay extra? Are you using them for your home phone as well (for financial reasons or other?). Are you happy with them?

As some may know I'm not happy with Optusnet not allowing me to change my existing plan without losing the 50% discount they offered me for 2 years. So I started looking around at what else is out there, though drew a bit of a blank really other than Bigpond and Dodo (both more expensive/less downloads than Optus).

So who do you use...?

Cheers

Travis

PS For the record, Qld Fair Trading said legally Optus is entitled to do what they're doing, but suggested I still pursue the matter with them, and then the TIO if not happy.

TPG, I'm on the old $49 p/ month 1500/256 12GB plan. Good speed, bad pings if you're into gaming. I get about 2 days a month where my net will drop off for an hour on average at about 4 in the morning.... most people wouldn't care, but I normally use the net then, so its an annoyance to me.

I'm tempted by that iiNet (or was it aaNet? can't recall) 12MBps $49 plan

I have just recently connected to Optus and it is my first broadband connection. After looking around and spending quite a bit of time at bc.whirlpool.net.au I decided that there doesn't seem to be a better option than Optus.

I am on the DSL Advantage plan (1500kbps, 21 gig download) for $49.95 per month and I can't complain about anything.

You may be annoyed with their lack of flexibilty in not letting you change plans without losing the discount, but if u move to another provider you will probably be worse of again.

Optus Cable Broadband. Never had a dropout, and I won't be changing ISP's any time soon. Its been a great 5 years.

I'm with aanet. When I joined it was just about the cheapest adsl going, and was very reliable. lately though others are starting to match on price, and even worse, what was once a flawless connection has recently been experiencing drop outs on a far too frequent basis. That and the fiasco with raising the prices a bit last year means I wouldn't recommend it.

My old man hooked up with aapt before Christmas. Got a basic modem free, and 12 gb at 512k for $40/month. Best of all, no contract. If I was looking at my first adsl, I would pick them.

of course, you should always explore your options at whirlpool.net.au

I should add, don't go to TPG now. They did a shifty and upped their prices to the customers that were using more bandwidth (at least that was how the speculation went). Half of their customers had to pay $20 more a month or cancel their contract.... I assume they were running without profit for a long time....
