When I bought my iPod, I checked eBay. There were other similar nanos available, including the 1 year warranty (presumably they were in fact purchased from Apple's refurb store, as they were identical), but they were priced about $30 more...

Similar non-warrantied iPods were selling for maybe $10-$30 cheaper.

Most of the time if something "new" on eBay sells for much less than RRP, there's something untoward going on... Could be legit; may not be.

why are there so many positive feedbacks then?

They don't have them for sale anymore? All I see are Time Capsules.
Chances are these are A) dodgy or B) from the USA.
Feel free to spend your hard earned over with a stranger on eBay, but I wouldn't. Buying direct from Apple, with free shipping is the safest way to go. I also doubt you'd get great after-sales support from an eBay seller compared to Apple direct.

(Disclaimer, I want you to buy from Apple so MacTalk gets a cut, but my points are still valid - it's up to you in the end however)

Agreed. I never would buy anything electronic from eBay. Even if it's "new" or a superseller whatever. You can never be guaranteed anything on eBay, even Paypal or their safeguard protection services. It's only to a certain limit. Sure you might get a great bargain - but when its only like $100 off, it's really not worth it - and then you have to include registered post etc which all adds up in the end.

I would only stick to buying accessories, CDs and the like. You can never be sure where the devices come from, and whether the real warranties are included.


But like decryption says - it's your money! Do what you like! I rather get it from the Apple store and be guaranteed EVERY TIME.

I've looked at eBay quite a number of times - since my friend's tell me how I'm somehow "ripping them off" if I sell an item that is higher than what eBay is asking for (there's a difference between current bid and final amount ).

Anyway, there are lots of reasons to go with the Apple Store, as decryption has mentioned - peace of mind, 12 month warranty, free courier etc... but to add to that, this is what I think is really great about the Apple Store too:

1. Item tracking. You can track your order! Sure eBay might be able to offer this but try tracking with AustPost if they even offer it for domestic services.

2. Aussie duckheads, as mentioned. You don't need to fiddle around with adapters and sourcing duckheads for Aussie outlets.

3. DOA policy and exchange policy. Not happy? Refund it. Dead machine? Replace it. Apple does the lot and couriers to your door, no charge.

These little extras are the reasons why I would go to the Apple Store online rather than eBay.

Warranty. Tracking. Returns. Power plugs.
