Why did Apple take the Apple from the Keyboard

I was at home the other night, and someone told me a new shortcut, so i thought i would try it. Now given i do most shortcuts as automatic, having to look for keys was a bit odd. Especially when i noticed that there is no Apple Symbol on my keyboard!

When did they take it off? AND WHY???

They took it off in August last year and they took it off because there's no reason for it to be there. All the instructions and menu bar shortcuts show the command icon, and that's what the key is, the command key.

Yeah I like it gone. The Apple key was an Apple II thing. Macs had instead. I must admit, I always cringed when Mac users called it the Apple key, rather than Command.

Unfortunately that was the only way I could get my dad to learn how to use the mac

Except that unlike 1984, it now actually has the word "command" on it now too. Pretty easy.

Its like the 'Windows' key. Easy to remember and n00bs would know what you're talking about.

I've been calling it the Apple key since about 1990.... I guess all good things must come to an end!

Nice article, I also call it Apple key, when telling my brother a shortcut when he uses my MacBook.
When writing in forums sometimes I call Apple key, sometimes command key, it depends...
This clover-like symbol is not quite well-known, but current aluminum keyboards has "command" in the english layout and "cmd" for other layouts, it seems they want people to stop calling it "Apple key".

Bye.
